Cops, civilians injured when floor caves in

Six po­lice of­fi­cers and four civil­ians, in­clud­ing a child, were in­jured af­ter the floor of the up­per lev­el of a house col­lapsed dur­ing a State of Emer­gency op­er­a­tion on Mon­day.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred short­ly be­fore 7 am.

Of­fi­cers of the Point Fortin CID and South West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force were con­duct­ing a search un­der Reg­u­la­tions 8 and 13 of Le­gal No­tice 240 of the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions, at the home of a pri­or­i­ty of­fend­er at Fan­ny Vil­lage, Point Fortin. 

The six of­fi­cers were up­stairs with the pri­or­i­ty of­fend­er, his wife and four-year-old daugh­ter when the wood­en floor­ing sud­den­ly col­lapsed.

The of­fi­cers and the three oc­cu­pants fell on top of a fourth oc­cu­pant who was down­stairs. 

The of­fi­cers and civil­ians suf­fered mi­nor in­juries and were tak­en to the Point Fortin Hos­pi­tal where they were treat­ed and dis­charged.

A se­nior of­fi­cer con­firmed that the pri­or­i­ty of­fend­er was in po­lice cus­tody last evening.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
