Just three weeks after a major gun haul at a customs bond in Couva, police made another seizure of four assault rifles and a large quantity of ammunition, this time at a warehouse at the PLIPDECO Industrial Estate, Pacific Avenue, Point Lisas, Couva.
In a media release on Thursday, acting Commissioner of Police Mc Donald Jacob commended the efforts of officers for yet another successful intelligence-led exercise conducted yesterday.
Jacob noted the success of operations of this kind, as it comes on the heels of another major gun and ammunition find in the Central Division on March 8.
The joint exercise was coordinated by acting DCP of Operations Joanne Archie, with officers of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Customs and Excise Division and Central Division CSI, under the ACP CIB.
According to the police, the exercise was conducted at the PLIPDECO LCL Warehouse, where the officers conducted a search of a sealed barrel, which, when opened, contained the following:
- Four assault rifles
- 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- 142 rounds 9mm hollow-point ammunition
- 13 rounds .45 ammunition
- 40 rounds .45 hollow-point ammunition
- 500 rounds 5.56mm ammunition
- 300 rounds 7.62 ammunition
- 9 magazines
- 2 drum magazines
The exhibits were processed by officers of the Central Division CSI and enquiries are continuing by officers of the SIU and Customs and Excise.
