With Carnival parties now in high gear, the Police Service says it is ramping up its operations around the country to ensure a safe season and that it will be paying particular attention to the issue of driving under the influence.

Media Ambassador for the TTPS, ASP Owie Russell, is urging revellers to take all the necessary precautions to ensure their own safety, and that of others, while they traverse the nation’s highways and byways.

“This is not the time to throw caution to the wind.  Be careful of how you drive,” he admonishes.  “We want to encourage persons to get enough rest between events because sleep deprivation can contribute to accidents.”

The TTPS Media Ambassador warns the public to expect DUI roadblocks to continue and stressed that managing one’s alcohol intake and having a designated driver is critical.

“A designated driver should not be the person that drinks the least,” he stated.  “They should be the person that is not drinking at all.”

ASP Russell told Guardian Media the TTPS intends to have a high visibility during Carnival 2025, with a view to ensuring that both citizens and visitors can feel safe as they enjoy the festivities.
