Senior Superintendent Rodhill Kirk is calling on Tobagonians to be careful when renting apartments to strangers.
His advice comes as the island has seen recent increases in criminal activity.
Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting in Whim last night, Snr Supt Kirk reminded Tobagonians that they must protect their own space, as best as they can.
“People let out apartments to people and they don’t even know their names. How could that be possible? And when they let out to two people, by next week there are 10 people in your apartment. And you don’t know who… somebody hiding from something, somewhere,” the senior Tobago cop said.
He warned landlords that this leaves them vulnerable to robberies and other serious crimes.
“And when he gets comfortable and he realises you are a soft target,” Snr Supt Kirk points out, “he cleans out your whole house and at the end of the day you don’t even know who was in your apartment.”
On a more positive note, Snr Supt Kirk revealed that more Tobagonians are coming forward with information to help the police solve crimes.
