New job opportunities will be opened to young people in the Couva area. This was announced on Monday following a meeting with the Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce (CPLCC) and the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC). New chairman of the CTTRC Ryan Rampersad said the CTTRC plans to construct a youth business incubator that would see the setting up of 20 vendor booths in the underutilised Inshan Ali Promenade.
Rampersad said this opportunity can generate employment for around 100 persons. He said the promenade would be given a facelift that would include an amphitheater for cultural performances.
“Our council members are interested in developing the Inshan Ali Promenade into a Youth Entrepreneurship Economic Incubator. We could easily construct 20 huts where we could have young entrepreneurs come in and set up businesses and each employ five people. That would be 100 new persons employed.
We would also create that synergy across the CTTRC region where the raw supplies can be sourced from the area.” Rampersad said there are issues such as flooding and infrastructure concerns that would have to be dealt with.
CPLCC head Mukesh Ramsingh said he was elated that the CTTRC reached out to the business community. He said night markets are as popular in the Eastern part of the world as China. Ramsingh said the protective services would also have to play a big role in ensuring safety and security once this venture gets off the ground. Ramsingh said he was elated that the new head of the CTTRC was not waiting on the government to get resources but taking a proactive role by getting the business community involved.
