Fed up of potholes in their community, scores of residents of Couva staged a demonstration yesterday calling on the authorities to undertake repairs.
The demonstration started at Exchange Road around 6 am with demonstrators bearing placards and a replica of a coffin made from cardboard which they said represented the death of democracy in T&T .
By 6.30 am the demonstration grew as scores of persons joined including some motorists who said they had enough with the bad roads.
The demonstrators crossed the Southern Main Road between Exchange Road on the west and Camden Road on the East. The coffin was later put in a large pothole on Camden Road.
Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh said the residents have had enough.
He said, “In spite of $300 billion being spent by the Government of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley every form of infrastructure is dead in this consistency. From the point of roads, healthcare and schools.”
Indarsingh called on the Government to release funds to the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation to fix the bad roads. He said bad roads are being repaired in other communities
He said, “Couva is the pothole kingdom in T&T. Camden Road is the worst road in T&T.”
