Fed up of pot­holes in their com­mu­ni­ty, scores of res­i­dents of Cou­va staged a demon­stra­tion yes­ter­day call­ing on the au­thor­i­ties to un­der­take re­pairs.

The demon­stra­tion start­ed at Ex­change Road around 6 am with demon­stra­tors bear­ing plac­ards and a repli­ca of a cof­fin made from card­board which they said rep­re­sent­ed the death of democ­ra­cy in T&T .

By 6.30 am the demon­stra­tion grew as scores of per­sons joined in­clud­ing some mo­torists who said they had enough with the bad roads.

The demon­stra­tors crossed the South­ern Main Road be­tween Ex­change Road on the west and Cam­den Road on the East. The cof­fin was lat­er put in a large pot­hole on Cam­den Road.

Cou­va South MP Rudranath In­dars­ingh said the res­i­dents have had enough.

He said, “In spite of $300 bil­lion be­ing spent by the Gov­ern­ment of Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley every form of in­fra­struc­ture is dead in this con­sis­ten­cy. From the point of roads, health­care and schools.”

In­dars­ingh called on the Gov­ern­ment to re­lease funds to the Cou­va/Tabaquite/Tal­paro Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion to fix the bad roads. He said bad roads are be­ing re­paired in oth­er com­mu­ni­ties

He said, “Cou­va is the pot­hole king­dom in T&T. Cam­den Road is the worst road in T&T.”
