Two days after the parent of a Form Five student of St Benedict’s College tested positive for COVID-19, assurances have been given that all COVID-19 protocols are being followed.
A release obtained from the Catholic Media Services said the school principal Gregory Quan Kep was informed by the office of the Chief Medical Officer on Friday that a parent of a Form Five student had tested positive for COVID-19.
“The Office has requested the dates the student was on the compound as well as the names and contact information of all students with whom he had direct contact.”
The release said immediate staff was informed along with the teachers of the three classes that the student attended.
“The principal advised that those students should self-quarantine. All protocols have been observed to minimize the spread in accordance with the health regulations and advisories,” the Catholic Media Services said.
Tiger Tanks COVID-19 decontamination Unit also sprayed the school at 6 pm on Friday. The principal forwarded the relevant contact tracing information to the CMO on Saturday.
The student was last recorded to be on the compound on April 15.
When Guardian Media visited the school in La Romaine yesterday, it was business as usual.
A man who identified himself as Iroy Dread of Plaisance Park came to drop off a laptop request form at the school.
Dread said, “I am not worried, I am sure the school did all that was necessary to keep the staff safe.”
A van from the School Feeding Programme also came through the gates.
Meanwhile, employees of a popular supermarket in Marabella were sent on home quarantine after a supervisor at the supermarket tested positive for COVID-19.
A staff member who requested anonymity said the supermarket was open as usual despite the development.
