Just two weeks before the one-year-old anniversary of his brother Kyron Marcano’s murder, Claxton Bay scrap iron dealer Kerdell “Crabbie” Marcano suffered a similar death.
Kerdell, 27, of St John’s Trace, died two weeks shy of his 28th birthday in Claxton Bay on Sunday night. A report stated that St Margaret’s patrolmen Cpl Charles and PC Nelson were on duty in the district when they responded to a shooting along John Trace and Hibiscus Drive Extension, Claxton Bay, around 9.25 pm.
When the officers arrived five minutes later, they saw a large crowd gathered outside a concrete two-storey building. They checked the building and saw Kerdell lying in his blood, covered with a multicoloured sheet. The officers cordoned off the scene and contacted their seniors.
District Medical Officer Dr Rajkumar viewed the body, found several gunshot wounds and ordered its removal to the San Fernando General Hospital mortuary for safekeeping. Undertakers transferred the body to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday for an autopsy.
In an interview with Guardian Media following his brother’s murder last year, Kerdell said: “Trinidad & Tobago, that is where we reach right now. Rifles and handguns are like socks and shoes on the road. Everybody has one. Everybody is wearing one.”
Kyron, 28, was at Club Classic along Hermitage Road, Union Village, around 10 pm on September 10, 2022. Surveillance footage showed patrons outside the bar when two men wearing hoodies ran into the bar. Armed with a handgun and rifle, the gunmen began shooting at Kyron as he sat around a table with others. A woman from the area suffered gunshot wounds as patrons scampered to safety. Kyron’s wife was pregnant with their second child when he died. Relatives believed it was an execution. However, they were shocked by his murder, saying Kyron usually walked away from conflict.
