Police warn of Christmas robberies
Police officers are warning citizens this Christmas season of robberies and have asked for extra vigilance when conducting business especially cash transactions.
This warning came on the heels of a robbery involving a store manager as she made her way to the bank to make a deposit on Monday.
The manager, police said, was robbed of cash, bank cards and other important documents.
The incident occurred at about 9.30 am while she was walking along Farfan Street in Arima.
She was approached from behind by a man, who grabbed her handbag.
Police said as she attempted to fight off the man and free her bag from his grip another man ran up to her and pushed her to the ground.
Both men escaped with her handbag, which contained over $35,000 in cash, part of which represented the store’s sales.
Investigations are continuing.
Woman’s killer still on the run
The 53-year-old man suspected of murdering Golconda mother Ramrajie Gobin is still on the loose, police confirmed yesterday.
Despite searches around the man’s Oropouche North Trace home in Barrackpore, he remained in hiding.
The suspect allegedly broke a protection order that Gobin took out against him a few months ago when he entered her home in Ridgewood Gardens on Sunday.
Police said that around 4.45 pm on Sunday, Cpl Sookraj and WPC Sutherland from the Ste Madeleine Police Station responded to a report of the breach.
On arrival at Gobin’s Ridgewood Gardens’ home, they met her children Anil and Anita.
Anita reported that around 1.43 pm, she received a call from Gobin, 49, stating that the suspect was at her home. Anita contacted Anil who went to the house, only to find Gobin lying motionless on a bed with stab wounds to her neck.
He then contacted the Emergency Health Service, who arrived shortly after and attempted to resuscitate her.
DMO Dr Bachan pronounced her dead at the scene and her body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre (FSC).
Crime scene investigators processed the scene and found the murder weapon, a knife, in a bin in the kitchen.
It was sent to the FSC for processing.
