A se­nior po­lice of­fi­cer has been charged with at­tempt­ed mur­der, wound­ing with in­tent and shoot­ing with in­tent fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent in which a Waller­field man was shot to death on Christ­mas Day.

De­tec­tives said yes­ter­day they were wait­ing on in­struc­tions from the of­fice of the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions in re­gard to oth­er charges. Ash­ley Charles suc­cumbed to gun­shot wounds af­ter he was shot at De­mer­ara Road in Ari­ma.

Charles' broth­er, Mark and moth­er Francesca, 49, were al­so shot dur­ing the in­ci­dent which re­port­ed­ly stemmed from an ar­gu­ment in­volv­ing land. Dur­ing the fra­cas, the se­nior of­fi­cer sus­tained in­juries to the head and up to late yes­ter­day re­mained ward­ed at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex in Mt Hope.
