Police are investigating two murders, one at Maracas Bay and the other in Tacarigua. In the first incident, Maracas Bay police officers are probing the murder of a 94-year-old pensioner who was found dead at her home on Monday morning. An autopsy conducted on the body of Matina Roxborough at the Forensic Science Centre revealed she was strangled.
Roxborough was discovered on the floor of her bedroom by her daughter Barbara. The woman told police she found the front door open and her mother's lifeless body on the ground. Police were notified and Cpl Cence Garrette and PC Ryan Cassie visited the scene.
Officers believe the killers broke a louvre to gain access to the house.
In the second incident, police are investigating the murder of a man known only as "Rice." According to police, around 7 pm on Monday night, officers responded to a report of a stench coming from a house at Thavenot Street, Tacarigua. When they arrived, they found the decomposing body of the man with a piece of bamboo inserted in his anus. Residents described him to police as a known drug user.
