The search for fugitive Wayne Johnson ended yesterday after police found him hiding in a vehicle at Tabaquite. Investigators said around 7 am, officers from the Central Divisional Task Force and Princes Town police received a tip-off following which they set up a roadblock at Brothers Road.
They later stopped a vehicle and found Johnson hiding inside. He attempted to flee but was arrested. Over the past week, officers from the Princes Town CID and Southern Divisional Task Force have been engaged in a manhunt for the suspect. Hours after his escape, officers rushed to Railway Road, Princes Town and raided a house, but did not find him. The officers also searched at Mon Repos, Cocoyea, San Fernando and the forested areas at Tabaquite, but were unable to arrest him.
Johnson, 26, escaped around 11 am on Tuesday, shortly after appearing at the Princes Town Magistrates on a robbery and murder charge. He alleged pushed down two cops and bolted. Sources said two cops are the subject of an investigation and may face disciplinary charges. Johnson was taken to the Princes Town police station yesterday where he will be charged for escaping lawful custody, following which he will appear before a Princes Town Magistrate.
