A 25-year-old Tobago man is expected to appear before a Scarborough magistrate tomorrow charged with attempting to murder English couple Peter Greene, 65, and his wife Murium, 59, at their Tobago home last weekend. The man was charged by police on Friday night, hours after investigators received instructions from the office of Acting Director of Pubic Prosecutions Carla Brown-Antoine.
According to police, the accused of Argyle village allegedly confessed to officers that he was involved in the incident. Yesterday a source close to the investigations described the attack against the Greenes as "the element of suprise." According to police, the accused told them he went to the Bacolet Greenes residence to rob and not with the intention to kill.
Sources said the accused saw the couple asleep in their porch and launched an attack on them with a cutlass. They (the Greenes) apparently were reading the daily newspapers and may have fallen asleep when they were attacked," the source said. On Thursday night, the officers were able to secure an alleged confession statement from the accused. The attack against the Greenes caused an international outrage, which led to the British and Australian Foreign offices updating their travel advisories.
