Sleeping ‘Gangster’ shot dead
Stephan “Gangster” Mark, a man described as a pest by North Eastern Division police, was shot dead while asleep at his Morvant home yesterday.
Mark, 25, was also associated with a man wanted by police for the murder of Sean “Bill” Francis. He lived next to Francis’ home.
He often shared his home with several young men, police said.
Mark, police said, had been fingered in several homicides, shootings and other crimes within the North Eastern Division. “His name was also called in the murder of his neighbour, Sean Francis,” an investigator said.
Around 4 am yesterday, residents of Unity Lane, Second Caledonia Road in Vegas, heard several loud explosions but paid no attention. It was not until around 6 am that a relative of Mark called out to him but got no response. A check was later made and Mark was found with gunshot wounds to the chest and face.
Police are working on the theory the killing may have stemmed from Monday night’s seizure of a high-powered rifle and shotgun by acting Commissioner of Police James Philbert and officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force, in the Vegas community.
