Jamaican faces deportation

Jamaican national Dwight Clinton Wallace
is being escorted into Morvant Police
Station on Saturday.

Police have arrested a 27-year-old Jamaican in an apartment in El Socorro, San Juan, after they received information that he was wanted by Jamaican authorities for attempted murder.
Dwight Clinton Wallace, of Bob Marley Boulevard in Kingston, Jamaica, was held around 6.45 am on Saturday by officers of North-Eastern Division Task Force at Ramcharran Drive, El Socorro Road Extension, San Juan. Wallace, however, denied that he was a fugitive.

He told the lawmen that a jealous ex-lover threatened to get him out of T&T by any means necessary, and was the person who alleged that he (Wallace) was wanted in Jamaica. “I was never arrested by police and charged before, not even for a traffic offence.” When questioned by police about his status in the country, Wallace admitted that he overstayed his time.

“Trinidad is a very nice place. The people are very friendly and generous, so I decided to stay, well, longer than I should have.
“I prefer here than Jamaica.” The hotel supervisor said he felt much safer in Trinidad, where he enjoyed himself at various nightclubs, as opposed to Jamaica, where were a lot of drive-by shootings. According to police, Wallace came into the country for vacation on November 8, 2008, and was expected to depart one month later. Wallace was expected to be handed over to officers of the Immigration Department.

You have to be very

You have to be very optimistic in determining what this man is saying to be true or not, sounds very convincing his story, the officers can speak to the Jamaican authorities to determine if this allegation is correct but no use now as he's an overstayer there is loads of them in this country from all over, call on all to legalise their stay within the next 6 months by proving they contribute to the community in a positive way, length of time here and fingerprint them all to match them to any committed crimes in the country an extensive in depth check. Don't let them be aware of this tho..

Where were you AJTRINI86

Where were you AJTRINI86 when they held the Guyanese ex-policeman a few weeks ago, how come you didn't call for legalisation then? Hmmmmmmm.

@ Obeahwoman, I did not hear

@ Obeahwoman, I did not hear about the incident you are refering to FYI, are you Jamaican?? Anyways its time T&T do something about these illegal immigrants in the country maybe even you, I'm not saying deport them all because some have family here and we don't want to break up a happy home unless they are not contributing positively to the society i.e. pay taxes, obeying the laws of the land and so on. So don't ask me where I was, this is MY COUNTRY, my navel string bury here and I can say as I please.

If there is some truth to

If there is some truth to his story, that's unfourtunate, but he can smoothen it out when he gets to Jamaica. But this is good, I believe that there is a lot more cracking down of illegal immigrants in this country.

a phone call and photo email

a phone call and photo email could clear up if he is wanted.
let the young man survive if he is a contributor to society.we are all immigrants, unless you are carib or arawak.
suddenly you want to close the border after you get through.

I think your comment about

I think your comment about we all are immigrants is totally and absolutely ludacris, maybe my great great great grandparents in which I could care less but both my grandmoms and dads RIP, parents, my siblings and I and their kids all have Computerised birth certificates with the nicely designed Coat of Arm on it with Trinidad and Tobago written in Bold letters so please refrain. About your ending statement "close the border after you get through", please note that ALL Citizens whether by Birth or Naturalization have a right to know that all who wish to come or stay here is checked thoroughly in the interest of public safety since we all have been a victim someway or another for far too long at the hands of this unruly minority that live amongst us, I do agree with you however that if he contributes POSITIVELY to society be allowed to stay proving he has created ties to T&T but if he want to stay here to wine and jam in clubs be sent back to seek the relevant visa to enter and live here.

All the people who commented

All the people who commented above seem to have missed the main point.

It does not matter whether the young man is contributing to society, whether he is wanted in Jamaica (or not); he has broken the law here by overstaying his permitted period.

The right thing to do now is deport him; at his expense since it is unfair that Trinidad and Tobago taxpayers foot the bill for his enjoyments over the past 8 months.

Jumbie's Watch

That is the same way many

That is the same way many Americans feel about all the illegals who have either overstayed their visas to enter the USA or they have snuck in illegally to begin with. The country now has about 20 million such illegals and the number is growing daily. It is time to put an end to all these illegals coming here or to Trinidad and Tobago either. I say send them all back and have them enter the respective countries legally.

And to your point of whether he is contributing to the TT society is not relevant. The fact is that he broke the law by overstaying his alloted time. I say send him back. The same should be done to all other Caribbean people who overstay their time or who work in the USA illegally. We cannot have one set of rules or laws for the islands and then think it is okay to do the same thing in the USA and no one should say anything about it.

Thankyou! I could not have

Thankyou! I could not have said it better and most of the bloggers who had something negative to say about the gentleman over staying his visa should take note that the Jamaican national complimented Trinidad by stating that he prefer to live there than in Jamaica. Thank God he has not been shot, kidnapped, robbed, abused by local authorities or even MURDERED,just to name a few of the atrocities I have been reading about on line that has been transpiring on the island.

"The Jamaican national

"The Jamaican national complimented Trinidad by stating he prefer to live here than Jamaica", is that really a compliment?
Thank God he has not been shot, kidnapped, robbed, abused by local authorities or even murdered" and how do you know he was not the one committing any of these crimes? Some of the excuses/reasons that people use to keep these people here.
Send him Back!!!!

Why is an accused criminal

Why is an accused criminal charged with attempted murder being escorted without handcuffs? The stupidity of the TT police amazes me!

We have our own troubles

We have our own troubles here we do not want other people's. The mere fact that he could overstay tells a whole story.
Send him home and he can fix his papers properly and return only if he is not a criminal.
Our police cannot cope with Jamdowners bad behaviour. How come nobody screaming ethnic cleansing

Just last week the Jamaican

Just last week the Jamaican press had a story about a Jamaican police officer wanted for attempted murder who had fled to Trinidad.

http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/tools/breakingnews/bnm.asp?bn=2353

Now we have our press reporting a story about the arrest of a Jamaican in Trinidad wanted for murder in Jamaica. I bet this is the same guy who has done what other Jamaican cops accused of serious crimes had done - flee Jamaica. Only I have never heard them run to T&T before, it is usually to the US of A.

BTW T&T, do not touch those Guyanese who have overstayed in T&T eh as there is a prevailing opinion in Guyana that their citizens can overstay in any Caribbean country and better not be touched else Guyana pulling out of CARICOM and aligning itself with its fellow neigbours in South America since it is not an island or in the Caribbean. How much more boldfaced can anyone get I wonder.

Let the guy stay if he is

Let the guy stay if he is not a criminal and is contributing in a positive way to our society.... there are soo many Trinidadians whose parents came here illegally from other islands anyways. What makes them special and others NOT?.
We are all caribbean people; but Guyana is not really a Caribbean island (they are really part of South America-they are lucky to be speaking English, they should be speaking Spanish or Portuguese) but the islands still embrace them... they better shutup and recognize. Somehow(back in guyana) they think they have to rights to going anywhere and overstay and still utter threats...They could pull outa Caricom - their hope is that somebody will miss them and to that I say :"hehe haha, they should know better"

thats my 2cent........

Houstontrini2! BRILLIANT! I

Houstontrini2! BRILLIANT!
I agree, we can't want rules in TnT and expect the USA to be slack on there rules. I say depart all of those people who are being burdens to any nation, why should tax payers anywhere in any country bear the burden of these wanna bees. Yes the times have changed because economies are different from years ago, now these people who take advantage and don't want to contribute to any society must leave, If they are doing well and sustaining a manageable legal lifestyle then they can stay, but if not-bye bye, but as in every case the innocent will also be caught up in this situation and be victimize. Peter pays for Paul.

This man must be well off,

This man must be well off, how he living, how he paying the bills, how he has money to party, I hope he is not one of them criminal that fly in to do crime. Anyway by overstaying you broke the laws of Trinidad and Tobago deport him! Next Time Renew your visa.

The police got to lock up the woman for making a false report if this does not pan out.
