Woman stabbed at Maracas beach lime

A section of the large crowd that went to Maracas for Sunday’s event.

A 21-year-old Maraval woman was stabbed on Sunday while liming at a popular bar in Maracas Bay. The incident took place after the bmobile promotion fete on the beach. Nathalia Subero, 21, of Moraldo Street in Maraval, is in stable condition at Port-of-Spain General Hospital, after suffering stab wounds to the neck and hands with a broken bottle.

Police said the assailant was another woman, and that an arrest was imminent.
The highly-anticipated daytime event was the network’s final summer campaign, and featured a number of activities for pre-registered participants. There was also live entertainment by two of the country’s biggest bands, Shurwayne Winchester and YOU, and Bunji Garlin, his wife Fay Anne and the Asylum Family. Before the performances, though, spectators were kept entertained by competitive sporting action among teams led by popular radio and television personalities: Sunny Bling, Jason Williams, Blaze, Tamara, Shal Marshall and Synergy TV’s Whitney Husbands.

Traffic heading to the popular beach facility remained bumper-to-bumper throughout the day, with police forced to patrol miles along the North Coast Road, both during and after the event. Highlight of the day, however, came with the live entertainment, provided first by Shurwayne and YOU, who brought on Jamaica’s female dancehall act, Bad Gyal Ce’Cile, and then later on, by The Asylum Band which, at one point had to call on the police to break up a fight in the crowd.

Road March winner, Fay Ann Lyons, just before the band’s exit, stunned many when she berated those who felt she’d won her crowns this year because of her pregnancy. By 6.30 pm, the momentum shifted from the beach to a bar where the stabbing incident occurred. Traffic made it difficult to transport the victim out of the area. However, Maracas police said they carried the woman on a stretcher and finally caught up with the EHS along the road. Ten people were reportedly detained on charges, ranging from robbery to marijuana possession.

About two years ago I

About two years ago I started to keep a log of the date and case every time I read an article where the TTPS used this phrase but sadly it was too often and I fell behind. Does anyone have any idea how often they actually follow through?

What phrase you ask? This or variations of it.......Police said the assailant was another woman, and that an arrest was imminent.

I AM SURE OVER 75% OF THOSE

I AM SURE OVER 75% OF THOSE YOUTHS UNEMPLOYED. AND EVERYONE IN HIS OWN MIND IS A STARBOY OR STARGIRL IN AN IMAGINARY MOVIE IN THEIR HEADS. I AM SURPRISED THERE WAS ONLY ONE STABBING. THERE WAS A ROCK CONCERT AT THE OVAL WHERE IT WAS ESTIMATED THERE WERE 60,000 PEOPLE AND POLICE REPORTED NOT ONE REPORT OF VIOLENCE. WE MUST ASK OURSELVES WHY.
TIME FOR THE POLITICIANS TO STOP BUILDING ALL THESE STADIUMS AND CONCENTRATE ON THE YOUTHS. MANNI RAMJOHN STADIUM IS WALKING DISTANCE TO THE BRIAN LARA STADIUM, IN FACT YOU CAN SEE ONE FROM THE OTHER. BUT IT WAS SO IMPORTANT TO BUILD THAT. WHERE IS THE PRIORITY ON THE YOUTHS BY THIS GOVERNMENT.

What more can they really

What more can they really give to the youth? There is free education up to tertiary level with free textbooks and free breakfast and lunch up to sixth form level and I'm pretty sure they still distribute free bus tickets. There is HYPE, MUST, MILAT, YTEPP for those who are not academically inclined, the OJT program is soon to be extended with a stipend increase. Must the gov't now hold the hands of these people and carry them to school to learn something. People need to stop blaming the gov't for parents' shortcomings. I am a young person and I hate to see when people sit and type that gov't needs to do more for the youth because I went to school in the days of no book grant or textbook rental, my parents had to PAY for all my books, I got nothing for free until university when they started GATE and I utilized it and got my degree. Good day to you all its time for me to prepare to leave for work.....

DON'T BLAME THE GOVERNMENT

DON'T BLAME THE GOVERNMENT

Do you think that the youth in other Caribbean countries have the opportunities that the youth in Trinidad and Tobago have? Yet, they don't have these incidents of murder and violence? I think it's a case of too much. I grew up in Trinidad and my mother washed peoples' clothes, cooked food for people in a factory, baked bread on weekends, all to make money to support my father who was the only breadwinner. There were 7 of us which included 4 boys and we did not grow up in a good part of town. She had to pay for everything to send us to high school, and we had one pair of "washikong" and two school uniforms. Yet, we all passed our exams and went on to becoming civil servants, two teachers, two nurses and a prison officer. We got licks and it did not kill us. We had to go to church every Sunday and we could not talk back to our parents. So try looking at the home situation where these kids grew up. Too much freedom, not enough discipline, too much $750 sneakers and brand name outfits, and with all the free education and opportuities, it's only one race in Trinidad that is embracing all that this country has to offer. Trinidad youth got it made, they are the envy of most Caribbean nations and they have failed miserably.

Avalynn, many youths are

Avalynn, many youths are constructive and are highly successful. So, to paint everybody and every young person with a broad dysfunctional brush is clearly not accurate.

People need to start taking responsibility for their actions and stop blaming their upbringing, social and historical circumstances. History records that almost all of us in Trinidad and Tobago have emerged out of slavery or indentureship: nobody came here rich, except perhaps the European planters. Some have done well, others have not. Isn't all a matter of making the right choices at the right time?

Feteing and liming are positive and essential activities. However, one much choose, where, when and how to fete and have a good time.

In any crowd where alcohol and drugs rule, there is bound to be some kind of violence, whether it is because somebody 'wine' on somebody gyul bumper or mash somebody toe.

So, please have faith in our youth and don't write them off just yet.

Rennie, it is hardly likely

Rennie, it is hardly likely that the patrons at the rock concert at the Oval will come there to look for trouble: the high price of the tickets, just like the all inclusives, serves to exclude most trouble makers. On the other hand, in most free events at beaches, bars, and street corners, where everybody invites himself, many thieves, bandits, kidnappers, murderers, and 'ignorant' people come to make trouble for the majority who come just to have fun and enjoy themselves. Especially when 'rum flowing like water'! I've been to one or two of those, the last time at a Preysal bar where bottles started to rain down near the band area, and a few 'planasse' (hit with the broad or flat side of a machete) passing. I rung my ears - never again to no free event like that.

This article is a classic

This article is a classic example of the values we have, where our attention and our interests lie.

I want readers to look at the headline; really assimilate it. And then look at the article content.

Only the first paragraph, and the first line of the next (totaling less than 30% I say) is relating to the headline.

The rest is about the fete, who was there, and who had a good time...

Jumbie's Watch

You're a very observant

You're a very observant person Jumbie. I think that the Guardian, who is leading by example by taking on interns, should make a note of this. Far too often journalists get caught up in the glamour and glitz of the event and pay little attention to the real meat of the story. I know that there are quite a cadre of experts working within the group that can teach these aspiring journalists the right way to construct a news item.

Boy, if this was a

Boy, if this was a 'composition' in my English class, it woulda fail. Why? Because it ent sticking to the topic at hand. Think if a lawyer presenting a case in court, or a doctor a paper at a conference, and dey drift so, dey go be excused?

Jumbie's Watch

Spot on Jumbie. Buh remember

Spot on Jumbie. Buh remember de media have to cater for a confused set of people. Confused media.. confused people .. you get it?

Jumbies Watch. Great

Jumbies Watch. Great observation. Realized it as well, but what made it stand out for me was this phrase that began a sentence, "Highlight of the day". Really??? It felt as though the 'journalist' had taken notes during the fete and didn't bother to transcribe those notes into a well written, sticking to the point article.
You could put your head on a block that everyday you will find some dotishness in the papers along this nature. Sad!

Real Investigative Story

Real Investigative Story Here...

This article spoke of Nathalia Subero of Maraval but nothing was said of Crystal Williams of Barataria who remains warded in a serious condition at the POSGH.

I hope that the "lecturers" at the Guardian are not teaching the interns there to just take a story from their police connection without verifying the information and facts before its published. If they had done so, I am sure that this news story would have informed us more about the crime than of the event and who performed.

Now this is just horrible, a

Now this is just horrible, a sad story is turned into a ridiculous story due to incompetence of this witter. The persons hosting this event is 100% responsible for the safety of all the persons attending. The lack of security and police officers provided at such a large event was the primary cause of this attack taking so many minutes to be escalated is actually eye opening.

And why would a place filled with heavy bumper to bumper traffic and a crowd filled with people be so difficult to locate the assailant. Well for some reason the assailant made it out without any problems but the victim was delayed from receiving proper medical attention due to the bumper to bumper cars. Hmmmmmm

And to the supervisor or this witter he/she should be fired and you also should be fired for reading, approving and publishing this vapid, confusing story.

My 5 year old son could have done a better job at explaining the events that took place.
