Damarie hill feuders put down guns
Warring factions of two Sangre Grande gangs pledged a peace pact yesterday after members surrendered their firearms to the police. Officers said two firearms were brought in from either gang and given to officers who had been coaxing gang members to give up the feuding. The initiative was organised and implemented by Senior Supt Margaret Sampson-Brown and included Sgt Beverly Paul, members of the Eastern Divisional Task Force and officers of the Sangre Grande Police Station.
According to Sampson-Brown, it was upon receiving information that Task Force officers went to a house at Damarie Hill in Sangre Grande around 1 am yesterday and recovered a quantity of ammunition, including a 12 gauge shotgun, cartridges and two revolvers at an abandoned house. Three people were up to late yesterday assisting police with investigations. Sampson-Brown said the operation was the culmination of intelligence gathering and hard-work on the part of her dedicated officers.
Following repeated complaints by Damarie Hill residents about the upsurge of shootings in the area, Sampson-Brown said police brought in some 20 reputed gang members into the Sangre Grande Police Station late Wednesday afternoon. “I spoke to these young men, pleading with them to put down their weapons because they were either going to die by a police bullet or by one of an opposing gang,” Sampson-Brown said.
She said talks were also held with parents who expressed frustration regarding their sons’ errant behaviour. “One parent said she was tired of speaking to her son and admitted he was in possession of a gun,” Sampson-Brown said. The deliberation with the gang members ended during the early hours of yesterday following which the young men expressed remorse for their actions, she added.
Just so? No truce? No
Just so? No truce? No meeting with the Prime Minister or other high level official?
That 12 guage was probably to shoot a lil manicou or tattoo for a friday night cookup.
This is all just a spin on things so that our Minister of National Securidy can look like things happening on the crime front.

2 Guns??? 2?? Dats All???
2 Guns??? 2?? Dats All???
Do Gangs use guns in shifts? Is there a time table for gun use? Or was it a two member gang???
I have a sneaking suspicion there are 'just in case' guns in their ankle holsters...
You mean to say these
You mean to say these officers do better than the Prime Minister ?
Without meeting the community leaders they managed to call a truce and collect illegal firearms.
PLease have them promoted and sent to Laventille and other areas that are experiencing the same problems.

GANGS PUT DOWN GUNS
GANGS PUT DOWN GUNS
Yes, they turn in two guns and promise no more bloodshed. Do you really think they mean it? If that was so, they would have brought in all the guns and ammunition, not just one gun from one gang and one gun from the other gang. Let's wait until later tonight, then we can say that the police did a better job than the government. Everybody has to try to make these young criminals see that what they are doing is foolish and would lead to an early death, but that said, they have to be the ones who end this feud, officials can talk until they are blue in the face, but if the gangs are intent on killing each other over petty stuff, nobody can help them. They like guns more than they like cook food. So we'll see. I reserve judgement on this one.
A positive note no matter
A positive note no matter how small.I hope that residents in other areas note that Damarie Hill residents had a hand in this by not letting up on the complaints.
Unlike other truces or peace pacts some of these hoodlums also handed in guns, and directed the police to a shotgun and amunition so let us hope that this pact lasts for longer than the others.
Last but not least were the two senior police on this case women? (Men have been named Beverly). Perhaps when men get the together the abundance of testosterone prevents them from having a level head,no disrespect to men (they are the keepers), but perhaps we need some more women in charge of the police stations.
Of course not the likes of "Miss Burning Weed"
