A man want­ed by po­lice in con­nec­tion with more than 20 mur­ders in the Port-of-Spain Di­vi­sion was among two peo­ple shot and killed dur­ing a con­fronta­tion with po­lice at Sawmill Av­enue, Mor­vant, yes­ter­day.

The shoot­ing took place in a house at the cor­ner of Small and Gar­rick Streets.

One of the vic­tims has been iden­ti­fied as Ty­rone Randy Brown.

Brown, 29, of Gon­za­les, Bel­mont, and St Barbs Road, Laven­tille, was pop­u­lar­ly known as "T" and "Spoon."

Up to late yes­ter­day, the sec­ond vic­tim re­mained uniden­ti­fied.

Both men died while un­der­go­ing emer­gency surgery at Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope.

"We have been hunt­ing Spoon for sev­er­al years in con­nec­tion with count­less mur­ders, but he some­how man­aged to elude cap­ture," said a po­lice of­fi­cer.

Po­lice said Brown was iden­ti­fied as one of the men in­volved in the killing of Sean Sandy and his girl­friend Avian Vil­lafan­na, 24, who were gunned down at their Ham­let Trace, St Barb's, Laven­tille, home on No­vem­ber 28, 2006.

Of­fi­cers at the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion said Brown was the "main shoot­er" for the in­fa­mous "Sandy Broth­ers Gang," but turned on the gang af­ter a dis­pute.

His face ap­peared in every "most want­ed" poster is­sued by the T&T Po­lice Ser­vice over the past few years.

Brown's end came around 11.15 am yes­ter­day, af­ter he was cor­nered at a house in Mor­vant and killed dur­ing a re­port­ed shoot-out with of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force.

Of­fi­cers said a pis­tol and re­volver were re­cov­ered from the scene. Hours ear­li­er, po­lice said, Brown and his ac­com­plice man­aged to es­cape a po­lice drag­net at Nev­er Dirty, by hi­jack­ing a garbage truck and es­cap­ing in­to Sawmill Av­enue.

Po­lice said Brown and a group of men shot at them and fled in­to near­by bush­es around 7 pm in Nev­er Dirty.

The Spe­cial An­ti-Crime Unit, Crim­i­nal In­tel­li­gence Unit, North-East­ern Di­vi­sion and the In­ter­a­gency Task Force had been con­duct­ing ex­er­cis­es in the area since Mon­day evening.
