Cop, spiritual leader in court for murder

Police constable Sunil Akaloo and spiritual leader Marlon Lee both appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate yesterday charged with the murder of Akaloo’s wife Bhasmat Seemungal-Akaloo.
“I did not do it,” Akaloo, an officer assigned to the Police Finance Branch, murmured as he was being escorted into the court by heavily-armed colleagues. Both stood before Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Sangre Grande First Court as the charge of murdering Seemungal-Akaloo was read to them. It is alleged on September 14 and 15 at San Louis Road Extension, Guaico, Sangre Grande, both men, along with other people, murdered Seemungal-Akaloo.
Akaloo, who was unrepresented, indicated that his attorney was out of the jurisdiction and was expected back in the country yesterday. Attorney Indar Jagroo appeared on behalf of Lee and asked the court how many statements were taken from Akaloo. The court prosecutor indicated only one. Both were brought to court by homicide investigators ASP Johnny Abraham, Insp Stanley Ramdeen, Sgt Eric Parks and PC Sunil Ramoutar. The charges were laid by Sgt Beverly Paul. Hours before the accused arrived at the court, scores of onlookers, braving the scorching sun, lined up outside the courthouse, hoping to get a glimpse of the men.
Flashback
School teacher Bhasmat Seemungal-Akaloo, 44, wife of murder accused Sunil Akaloo, was snatched from her Cunaripo home by four masked men around 5.10 am last week Tuesday. Some six hours later, the mother of a three-year-old girl was found dead with several stab wounds to the neck and hands.

Since when an Obeah Man is a Spiritual Leader?
Let's see if he can use his "powers" to escape the long arm of justice now.

That Police Officer on the
That Police Officer on the Front pages of the Guardian, needs to bring a constitutional motion of bias against the Minister of National Security and the commissioner of police for being allowed to be photographed and displayed in the glare of the public.
If he was of a different ethnic background, he would have been shielded by his collegues, possibly being allowed to use the back entrance.
I await the motion filed by the Maha Saba on his behalf!

Dan its so sad people like you only see race in anything and everything .A mother was murdered ,thats the issue we should be focusing on, at the end of the day we are all Trinbagonians and above that we are all human.
Dan boy, even before this
Dan boy, even before this guy is Indian, or even a Policeman, he is a murder accused.
So what special treatment does he, or any other murder accused, deserve?
And what does the Maha Sabha have to do with this?
I'm totally at a loss here...

Far too often we read of
Far too often we read of these kinds of crimes and what is even worse is that law men are at the center of some of these crimes. It seems that my Trini people(some not all)are mentally unstable and are in need of counseling by qualified mental health professionals, every day some man beats up his wife, murders his wife or even murders his children in a show of revenge or what ever the case is or sometimes the entire family circle is wiped out by some deranged father/husband/boyfriend. I am a firm supporter of the death penalty but as far as some of these domestic natured crimes, we as human beings need to be proactive and prevent them from occuring by recoginzing the need for help. The government needs to put more money into mental health programs for the citizens to prevent this type of thing from occuring. God have mercy on TnT.

Dan where was the Maha Saba when this woman was getting the life snuffed out of her?
I await a reply from Dan
I totally agree with you,
I totally agree with you, what the hell does race and ethnic make up have to do with this most of us Trinis are multi-ethnic some people who you believe are 100% indian or anything else for that matter are not, so we just need to stop with all this race/ethnic nonsence we are all Trinbagoians and that's all, I am always mistaken for 100% Indo-Trini by so-called 100% Indo-Trinis themselves but guess what I'm only 1/4 Indo-Trini none of us are pure anything anymore, this cop and his spiritual leader or what ever he is are both accused of murder plain and simple no professional privilege or courtesy should ever be extended to Mr. Akaloo and his cohort. Any comment DAN?
