Cops kill three after Morvant car chase
Left: Joel Romain Right: Kerwin Joseph
Police shot and killed three men who were involved in a murder at Samaroo Village, Arima, during a confrontation in Morvant on Thursday night.
A fourth suspect, 31, of Second Caledonia Road, Morvant, was under police guard at Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was taken for observation. The dead men have been identified as Joel Romain, 19, a former national junior sprinter, Kerwin “Lal” Joseph, 24, and Akee Caballero, 32. All the victims lived at Second Caledonia Road. Officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force said shortly after 11 pm, they spotted a white B-14 Nissan Sunny, proceeding west along the Eastern Main Road near Morvant Junction.
Investigators said the vehicle fitted the description of the car involved in the murder of Ryan Rivers, 24, who was shot and killed a short distance from his Samaroo Village, Arima, home. That incident occurred shortly after 10 pm. Police said they turned on the strobe lights on their vehicle and using the car’s speaker system called on the driver of the vehicle to pull over. “They just drove through a no-entry sign and sped up Second Caledonia and we gave chase,” one of the officers told the T&T Guardian. Officers said they called for back-up. The suspects, police said, began firing at them in the vicinity of the Church on the Rock. The officers returned fire. Joseph, police said, was the driver of the vehicle. He crashed the car a short distance away. As officers approached the vehicle, they saw a man running away from the scene. He was called upon to stop but continued running with an object in his had. The man was shot once in the leg by officers. He told them he was walking through a track speaking on his cellphone when he heard gun shots. He said he got scared and began to run, even though he heard voices ordering him to stop. He was not an occupant of the vehicle.
The killers were taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they died while undergoing emergency surgery. A suspect, who was also in the vehicle, but, was not injured, was taken to hospital for observation. Police said he has not spoken since the incident. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol and a .38 revolver. Police said the front of the police vehicle was damaged by a bullet. Akee, investigators said, was one of the country’s best getaway drivers. “He often gave us a run for our money...Lots of times during high-speed chases with him, we lost him. I believe he was one of the best getaway drivers we have ever come across,” one officer said. He was also fingered as one of the men involved in the murder of three people who were shot while liming at the village night club in Arima.
Killers and menace to
Killers and menace to society don't need to under go "emergency" surgery to save his life. Emergency surgery is for members of society that observe the law; why try to save these troublesome men who doesn't give a care about life?

The car was a white B-14 Sunny, its a popular choice of bandits and crooks as it blends in well on the road with the thousands of other white B-14 Sunnys. So waht made the police suspect this particular white B-14? Based on thier reason for intercepting the car I sugestbthat anyone with a white B-14 Sunny repaint it in another colour or sell it. Police may come after you too.
Anyway folks, when I see police making these kinds of BS statements I know they are lying. What a place we live in when the phrase "lying police" is considered as redundancy.
what was not said was that
what was not said was that the police also had the liscence plate of the car that was involved in the murder in arima (i live in the area so i know what took place). that is what makes the car fit the description, not the colour and make alone.
please do not be quick to judge when you do not know the whole story.
you know what they say about assuming........................
I agree with dread.arima. I
I agree with dread.arima. I don't understand this damned if you do and damned if you don't attitude from our people. I agree that not everything as it is written is reflective of how things actually happen; but I would prefer to believe that there are good police out there who are trying to do their job with their limited resources and deserve credit and commendation for their gallant efforts, when they are successful.
Congratulations to the T&T police on a job well done. Keep up the good work and let's get more of these bandits and life-takers off of our streets.
How could killing suspects
How could killing suspects be a job well done? This isn't real policing!
What this and other similar incidents demonstrates is the need for training within the police service.
You're absolutely correct,
You're absolutely correct, they need to teach police officers how to blow kisses at men with guns that would surely be good policing.
straight-talk-dude Four
straight-talk-dude
Four hundred and counting murders in the still wonderful TNT and you can still find morons making idiotic statements that only a fool can make, i.e. the police only criteria for suspecting the killers vehicle was that it was white. Have you seen the caliber and make of guns these killers (nice/cool lil fellas) have in their arsenals?
While I understand that the
While I understand that the state of affairs in our beloved TnT has prompted you "Sunshine" to feel this way about these undesirables of society, I happen to be a physician and we a bound by an oath which dictates that we attempt to save the lives of all human beings regarless of the circumstance. Again I do understand what prompted you to make such a comment.
Its amazing how on all
Its amazing how on all occassions where there are gun fights between the police and alleged criminals, that the police always seem to get shot at first and then they return fire. And what's even more amazing is that these police officers always seem to win these gun battles.
Maybe they are not as dunce as we make them out to be!
Why is it that when ever the
Why is it that when ever the cops do something right there are a few idots who are more concern about the spelling or the wording of a sentence.Give praise and thanks to the cops and please stop being idots.
GREAT JOBS GUYS PLEASE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
The Police should have done
The Police should have done it by the book, observing correct procedure. The rules of engagement would have obliged the officers to call out to the suspects:" This is dee Poleece, stop, throw dong yuh weapons and alight from the vehicle wid yuh hands high up in the air." Then while the police are busily engaged in reading the suspects their rights, the suspect bandits would have shot down the keystone cops and jumped back in their white B14 Nissan Sunny with the renowned getawaway driver at the wheel, eluding all back-up called out in the chase, planning to put down the nex wuk. And crick crack....
