One man is dead and another is believed to be on the run after a shootout with police officers in the Moruga forest last Friday evening. Police said around 10:15 pm, officers acting on information went to the Moruga forest where they found Gary Mohammed and another man hiding in a camp. Both men reportedly shot at the police officers and a shootout ensued. Mohammed was shot several times about the body. Police said Mohammed, who has a Tobago address but was originally from Ste Madeleine, died instantly. His accomplice ran off.

Investigators have launched a manhunt for the second man who was believed to have been wounded. Both men are alleged to be wanted in connection with last month’s murders of Kolen Salandy 16, and Rondell Thomas, 15, whose bodies were found close to each other at French Fort, Scarborough, Tobago. The bodies bore marks of violence to the neck and throat, and the teenagers were found with their underpants and trousers pulled down to their knees. Investigations are continuing.
