Former TV cameraman held on firearm charges
A former television cameraman, who now has his own video company, has been arrested by police in connection with a shooting incident near his Longdenville, Chaguanas, home on Saturday night. The suspect is the holder of a firearm users’ licence. He is expected to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today, charged with common assault, shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and discharging a firearm within 40 yards from a public roadway. According to police, the charges stemmed from an incident near the suspect’s home. Head of the South/Central Division ACP Shah Mohammed confirmed police were investigating an incident near the suspect’s home. He said the suspect was expected to be charged by police yesterday afternoon. According to police, shortly before 8 pm, the suspect was involved in an argument with one of his neighbours. The man left and later returned with a shotgun. He is alleged to have fired shots at his neighbour, who escaped unhurt. A report was made to the police and officers of the Central Division responded and arrested the suspect. Police seized a shotgun, ammunition and the suspect’s firearm users’ licence.
