Ak­ile Si­mon

Po­lice shot and killed a man want­ed in con­nec­tion with sev­er­al homi­cides in­clud­ing the killing of a 14-year-old Diego Mar­tin school girl and a Se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cer at the Po­lice Ser­vice Com­mis­sion De­part­ment. Joel Si­mon, 28, pop­u­lar­ly known as Kil­lquick, died while un­der­go­ing emer­gency surgery at the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal Sun­day night.

Si­mon, who is orig­i­nal­ly from Siparia, but lived at Cuth­bert Cir­cu­lar, Four Roads, Diego Mar­tin, was shot about the body by po­lice dur­ing a con­fronta­tion out­side the Vil­la Maria Ho­tel, Per­se­ver­ance Road, Mar­aval around 9.30 pm. A po­lice of­fi­cer, who in­ves­ti­ga­tors did not wish to name, al­so sus­tained a gun­shot wound to one of his fin­gers dur­ing the in­ci­dent. He was treat­ed at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex in Mt Hope and dis­charged.

Act­ing Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er James Philbert said Chair­man of the Po­lice Ser­vice Com­mis­sion Christo­pher Thomas, has ex­pressed grat­i­tude to the po­lice for their re­lent­less pur­suit of the sus­pect and the ac­tion they took in bring­ing clo­sure to the mat­ter. Si­mon was cap­tured on a sur­veil­lance tape at the Com­mis­sion's Cipri­ani Boule­vard, of­fice on Au­gust 15, as the man who shot and killed Es­tate Con­sta­ble Glen­roy Jones, 43. Near­ly one year ago, 14-year-old Kim­ber­ly Mon­deroy was shot dead when she was caught in the cross­fire when Si­mon fired shots at a group of men in a ve­hi­cle.
