Police shot and killed a man wanted in connection with several homicides including the killing of a 14-year-old Diego Martin school girl and a Security officer at the Police Service Commission Department. Joel Simon, 28, popularly known as Killquick, died while undergoing emergency surgery at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital Sunday night.
Simon, who is originally from Siparia, but lived at Cuthbert Circular, Four Roads, Diego Martin, was shot about the body by police during a confrontation outside the Villa Maria Hotel, Perseverance Road, Maraval around 9.30 pm. A police officer, who investigators did not wish to name, also sustained a gunshot wound to one of his fingers during the incident. He was treated at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope and discharged.
Acting Police Commissioner James Philbert said Chairman of the Police Service Commission Christopher Thomas, has expressed gratitude to the police for their relentless pursuit of the suspect and the action they took in bringing closure to the matter. Simon was captured on a surveillance tape at the Commission's Cipriani Boulevard, office on August 15, as the man who shot and killed Estate Constable Glenroy Jones, 43. Nearly one year ago, 14-year-old Kimberly Monderoy was shot dead when she was caught in the crossfire when Simon fired shots at a group of men in a vehicle.
