A 28-year-old man who was shot by police during an incident at Maracas Bay last month, appeared yesterday before a Port-of-Spain magistrate paralysed from the waist down. He was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition. In an unusual move, Magistrate Avason Quinlan temporarily held court at the back of an ambulance belonging to the T&T Fire Service, which was parked at the prisoners’ entrance to the court.

Hernandez was granted $75,000 bail by Quinlan and ordered to reappear in court next April 15. He was placed in the care of his father, Gray Hernandez, of Edward Trace, Mayaro. Gray was ordered to sign the bail bond for his son. The charges stemmed from an incident at Maracas Bay when police spotted a man handing a firearm to another. PC Katteck, of the Highway Patrol, laid the charges.
