Manning: No gun amnesty
Prime Minister Patrick Manning speaks to
two youths in Pleasantville, yesterday.

Following the theft of 13 guns from a security firm and mounting deaths caused by firearms, Prime Minister Patrick Manning is saying “no” to calls for a gun amnesty. “The matter has been discussed and the conclusion has been that when you set up a gun amnesty and you pay people to return guns, all you are doing is funding newer guns than they bring in. “That is not the thing to do,” Manning told reporters following a walkabout in Pleasantville, in his constituency, San Fernando East yesterday evening. Manning who walked for an hour, said there were a lot of illegal guns in the country.
He also expressed regret for the death of school boy Darrion Calendar Duncan, 15, who was killed following a football match at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium last Friday evening. Manning said young people had too many alternatives to get involved in crime. On the issue of being Executive President of this country, Manning said, “it holds no special interest for me.” He said it was unlikely he would be in line for this position which may come about long after he has demitted office, because the government does not at this time enjoy a parliamentary majority to pass such legislation.
Manning also said he was enjoying good health, but had missed his September date with his Cuban doctors and added he would go for a check up before the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in November. He also said that he did not believe that local government elections will be postponed again, although the Joint Select Committee looking at the legislation is yet to report. Manning said his walkabout yesterday had nothing to do with elections or Diego Martin West MP Dr Keith Rowley.
No one respects this vermin.
No one respects this vermin. His own community leaders refuse to stand when speaking with him, a sheer sign of how irrelevent they view him.
Yes, a picture is worth a
Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words !!
The body language says it all - a clearly apathetic position on the part of those in the photo. There may be reasons for it (e.g. unemployment; no water; bad roads - yes, even in Pleasantville).
However, if the PM does not even command some respect from the people in his constituency, his leadership is clearly hanging on a thin rope.
" his leadership is clearly
" his leadership is clearly hanging on a thin rope." More like by a thin thread.
To be fair
To be fair
Am not defending Prime Minister Manning, but the assumption is being made the young men had the 'broughtupsie' to know to stand when someone approaches them, Prime Minister or dustbin collector.
Yes, photos can be quite revealing but they can also be 'flawed' depending on the angle from which they are taken. If the men were standing when this photo was taken, the 'angle' may have told a different story ie. 'menancing' body language.
Either way, the interpretation of a photo is and can be flawed. Rather than 'disrespecting' Prime Minister Manning, I would say the photo suggests "could not give two green fig" either way. I do not know the young men in the photo and would not want to suggest they have no 'broughtupsie' nor would I want to suggest they were being disrespectful.

The Express has a photo of him kissing people's little children. I hope he didn't give then any swine flu.
You don't have to reward
You don't have to reward people with cash in exchange for their illegal guns. Other countries have gun and knife "amnesties" where youths turn in weapons of all sorts; the only reward they receive is not to be charged for their possession, but they don't get amnesty for any other crimes committed.
And what is wrong with our Mount Hope Hospital, POGH, S'Fdo Gen and the private hospitals that the PM has to be returning regularly to Cuba for check-ups? Every time you sneeze you have to run to Cuba. Might as well ask Castro for political asylum while you're there.
That tells the country and the whole world a lot about our development priorities. If one of the leaders of the CHOGM has a medical condition or emergency or picks up swine flu, are you going to send him/her to Cuba?
Since when did you decide that the Executive President holds no special interest for you? Since you realise you might soon have to vacate the nice new Palace for somebody else to enjoy it? You mean you wouldn't want to enjoy the immunity from prosecution that the executive presidency brings with it? And the usage of the presidential third person when you and the first lady speak of themselves? And the legitmate use of the crown or any suitable emblem or coat of arms with your portrait embossed on it that you might commission to be used on your presidential fleet of luxury vehicles? I don't believe you and I'm sure 99.9 percent of the people don't.
The Prince - Good Day
The Prince - Good Day Sir:
Gun Amnesty - I fully agree with you.
With this programme, they turn in their guns - no questions asked, no monies should be exchanged. So where is this man getting his money talk from. With this programme you find persons who also own guns and don't use them and don't know what to do with them, will get an opportunity to dispose of theirs too. Even some parents may turn in their children's guns.
Knives & Other weapons (the ninja stuff) are turned in by youths.
Even toy guns are turned in. But with the youths and kids they try and encourage them with coupons for burgers, etc. at the Burger Shop, tickets to the movie, etc. or a chit to get a toy at the Toy Shop - youth and children stuff, as an encouragement; you take away one and replace it with another.
No parent should ever buy a toy gun for a child; or allow them into the country.
Poor man he missed his monthly visit to Cuba. He must be stressed. He is saying that he is not interested in the Exec. Presidency? I wonder why? Are they sure his lips were moving? He goes to Cuba because he says that should anything happen to him at the hands of our local doctors, he does not want any conspiracy theorist to theorize. Who am I to question his judgement.
By the way, I noticed you comments on the 'soap box' article. Thanks. The individual threw everthing in except the kitchen sink - he/she was all over the place, so I could not pin down on one, so I attempted to interpret what perhaps the message was. Win some loose some.
Enjoy your day.

I know that you all will
I know that you all will think that my party card has been approved when I say that I agree with the PM.
How many times have we tried this before and how many guns have been recovered?
The mistrust between the people and the police cannot be easily and quickly fixed so that if another gun amnesty is given, we'll be lucky to get back 1 or 2 rusty old webly revolvers.

Gardenia, good day to you
Gardenia, good day to you too. Last amnesty the Gov't ran, they gave the boys money for their old guns and the chaps must have thought Christmas come early, let me trade in the old toy gun, pop gun, home-made booby trap or whatever for a gleaming new piece. It's called trial and error policy. If plan A doh wuk, try plan B until you run out of alphabet letters and then start with Plan A1 and so on. Another example for you of government by vaps.
Yes, the centre-page letter seemed to start off in one direction and then go off at a tangent mid-stream. Sounds like the Government. But I see you did eventually solve the meaning of the esoteric message.
The Prince, who advised this
The Prince, who advised this brilliant gov't to exchange money for guns? I don't think that any country involved in 'gun amnesty' gave out money. Could be his way of paying his boys under the guise of an exchange. Who knows.
With the Centre Stage, like it is said, I got lemons so I made lemonade. Thats life.
By he way take care of yourselves as the H1N1 is moving fast with this second wave, and your Mr. Narace appears to have not done a thorough job. Hope you guys don't get ill. The info. I sent earlier still is up-to-date.
See you.

Gardenia, it was obvious
Gardenia, it was obvious that with the re-opening of schools the virus would have had more opportunities to spread. Like many other infections children bring home all sorts of bugs, infect their families and it sets up a whole vicious circle. I see it's even reached the S'Fdo courts.
I'm not an expert, so I leave it up to them, but you have to observe some elementary procedures like simple hygiene practices like proper washing of hands, covering of mouth & nose when you cough or sneeze, keeping your environment clean, staying away from crowded places like cinemas etc, innoculating the at-risk groups for starters; maybe setting up some mobile clinics/testing stations for screening etc, if we still have any money for these kinds of things.
According to the Express, he
According to the Express, he has now done a volte face. He's folowing his mentor Panday and is now saying that if the people want him he'll run for Executive President, if he's still around. Like he not listening. He'd better take off those imitation Eric Williams dark shades and put back on his glasses. And if he really wants to imitate the real father of the nation, he could get a hearing aid and all. That way he could hear the voice of the people. Staying in that airconditioned sound-proof Ivory Palace making him disconnected and out of touch with what is going on in the outside world. And his lackeys only telling him what he wants to hear.
Reminds me of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar where the dictator was thrice offered the crown and thrice he refused:
"CASCA: Why, there was a crown offered him, and being offered him,
he put it by with the back of his hand, thus, and then the
people fell ashouting.
BRUTUS: What was the second noise for?
CASCA: Why, for that too.
CASSIUS: They shouted thrice. What was the last cry for?
CASCA: Why, for that too.
BRUTUS: Was the crown offered him thrice?
CASCA: Ay, marry, wast, and he put it by thrice, every time gentler
than other, and at every putting by mine honest neighbors
shouted."
The Prince - 'about
The Prince - 'about face'?
Just finished reading the Ex. and I thought I'll come do an update, when I saw your comments.
Mind games - we got them all.
"If the people want me, I'll be prepared to serve." Oh what a humble man. - What a load of horse manure.
'The people want him to fire UDeCOTT and speak the truth' so why is he not listening to those messages? It does not serve his twisted sense of reality; that's why.
He gave you an assignment to go fetch your Julius Caesar and give us substance to compare, huh.
(My Complete Works of Sh. will stay in the bookcase for the time being.) Manning is putting out a modern day play with history plot. Till tomorrow.

IS HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF

The last time there were serious enquiries into PNM corruption there was a COUP. Is history about to repeat itself? Where are all these guns going?
