Fourth man held for theft of guns

A fourth man, allegedly involved in the theft of 13 guns from the Mi5 Security Company in Woodbrook, appeared yesterday before a Port-of-Spain magistrate. Donny Dick, 29, of Couva, appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gaffoor in the Fifth Court. He was charged with robbing Leslie Thompson of six pistols, valued at $33,000, as well as impersonating a police officer, on October 25. It was only last Thursday that three Couva men—Leary Ferrier, 27, Hayden Riley, 26, and Caesar Collins, 29—appeared in Couva Magistrates’ Court, charged with receiving 13 guns.

Dick, a Plipdeco terminal employee and father of a three-year-old child, told the court he was not identified by any witness as being the person who robbed the security firm, and as such was not supposed to be charged. As he spoke, his attorney, Shalini Khan, sat in the 4b Court, awaiting his arrival. It was only after he was brought to the 4b Court that it was realised Dick had already appeared before a magistrate. As a result, the matter was adjourned to today. It is alleged that on October 25, two men entered the company’s Alfredo Street office in Woodbrook. One was dressed in police uniform. A female sentry was accosted and the men made off with 11 9mm pistols, a .357 revolver and a shotgun.

With these magistrate courts

With these magistrate courts still playing musical chairs, it's a wonder the magistrate didn't dismiss the case.
