Members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) rescued a 22-year-old woman yesterday, after she was reportedly kidnapped and tortured by a man. The incident happened in Caroni. Kizzy Allick, originally of Morvant, remained in a serious condition at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex last night, suffering from first degree burns about the head, face, chest and other parts of her body. She had been beaten with the butt of a gun, shot in one of her thighs while her face, chest and other parts of the body were badly burnt. She also lost two of her teeth. Police have detained a man and a woman for questioning. They said the man had been released from prison two weeks ago.

The two were held after officers intercepted a car and reportedly found Allick wrapped in a bed sheet, lying on the back passenger seat of the vehicle. The suspects had just left a house at Riverside Extension, Kelly Village, Caroni. Officers assigned to the Caroni, Chaguanas and Central Police Station in Port-of-Spain have been criticised by the victim’s relatives who claimed that those officers failed to act on their report. Relatives said they were turned away from all three stations when they attempted to report Allick’s abduction.

The victim’s mother Lucy Campbell said: “We went to the Caroni Police Station, they not doing nothing, Chaguanas the same thing, and we came to the Central Police Station (St Vincent Street), they told us they not getting involve in Caroni business, and we can’t come down here and report Caroni police to them.” Campbell she was satisfied with the response received when she reported the incident to the AKU.

Why all this runaround from the police when time is of the essence, assuming the mother's account is correct? But a job well done by the AKU.

Too many criminals and beasts being allowed bail to be free to commit more crimes. The system needs to be tightened up.

I thought that Acting CoP

I thought that Acting CoP Philbert made promises to us about not getting the run around from police stations?

Was this just more empty promises by him until he retires again next month?

The Prince & Epsomsalts: If

The Prince & Epsomsalts:

If according to the mother, she got the run around from the Police Officials at these statiions, some heads should roll and some jobs should be in question.

Yes, Mr. Epsomsalts, the Acting CoP did promise us not so long ago that the first station you show up at to make a report they must attend to you, and follow through with the appropriate station. This promise should have been cast in stone. But it appears that the message being sent from the Big Boss is either not getting down to the personnel whose job it is to SERVE AND PROTECT, or they are ignoring his instructions.

The lives of our people, no matter their station in life, is a top priority to every official in this country. We, the tax payers are paying these officials to conduct out our business and to ensure our safety and security.

We all have to acknowledge the fact that:-

'BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD, THERE GOES I"

and speak up and do so loudly, to ensure that this criminal rage come to end in my country. We must hold our officials accountable.

Gardenia

Gardenia, we really gone

Gardenia, we really gone through. Our whole values system has turned upside down. Seems the criminals are being allowed to win. This country will soon turn into anarchy if law and order refuses to prevail. Soon citizens will have to take the law into their own hands if that's the kind of response they get from those they pay to protect and serve them.

Speak up against the

Speak up against the authorities and become a victim yourself?

I know that its the right thing to do, but unless you can follow through with what lies ahead for you, I would take the safe and coward way out.

Whistle blowers and witnesses are a dying breed, or should I say that they are being wiped out.

But its really terrible to see that this could have been avoided if proper procedures were followed.

You ask about the troops not getting the message from the Acting CoP, but we got his message loud and clear, and we are not police officers.

A bunch of jokers, all of them, just waiting on that big, fat pension package and "retirement fund"... while we are all brutalized or killed, one by one...

Thanks Mr Philbert. On behalf of the victims. Thanks...

It was so quick for you to have offered an apology recently for the 3 dead kidnappers.

Gardenia, the real problem

Gardenia, the real problem is that these things are hidden from public view. I am sure that if they went with cameras to record their statements and those of the police, there would be more action on their part for fear of being exposed in the media. Oh, the media!!! That ought to be their role: exposing corruption and ineptitude. But I digress....

I just do not understand why the police station that is the closest cannot help or at least call and inform whatever station is in the jurisdiction. It seems to me that the Police either does not care about "certain types" ( or all types ?? )and prefer to do nothing. "TO PROTECT AND SERVE", Is this service Mr. Acting Commissioner Philbert?

OMG !!! The picture - so

OMG !!! The picture - so graphic , showing man's inhumanity to man . The non-response of the police , should they not be charged for their non-response ?? To serve and Protect , WHOM ??? Thank GOD for the AKU but from the 1st report , the police should have contacted the AKU .
I hope that Kizzy get well soon , physically , and that she will also overcome the mental anguish .

EdwinJames - Sorry: - - I

EdwinJames - Sorry: - -

I know that nothing we can say to you at this time can remove what has occurred to your little sister. She could have been our sister, or our child, and we all have to feel the pain of this brutality. We would like to let you know that we do not condone this type of behaviour from any one on another person. I hope that your sister is able to recover from her physical abuse. She would have to receive careful psychological care to deal with the emotional scars. We can all hope that she will slowly be able to recover and regain her confidence in herself and humanity.

I expect the laws of the land to dealt harshly with those abusers, ensuring that they do not do this to another person.

It would appear that our Protective Services let your little sister down, and I would hope that those responsible for their neglect are held to account. Sorry.
Gardenia

Gardenia, these are the

Gardenia, these are the people Philbert should be apologising to. And he should institute an investigation into how these three police stations handled this desperate mother's pleas for help. If it is shown that the officers were negligent in their action or inaction, appropriate measures should be taken. If not, the police will continue with an attitude of business as usual.

MelindaCampbell Im a cousin

Im a cousin of both Kizzy and Edwin.

Hi Edwin, long time haven't heard from you, and its just so sad that we have to reconcile in a situation like this.

Kizzy is one of my closest cousins and anyone who knows her can tell you she is full of life and fun to be around.

This heinous act that happened to her was undeserving. This guy should have been shot on sight! How can anyone live with themselves knowing that they did this kind of torture to another human being. He claims to love her, but how can you claim to love someone and beat, shoot and burn them like that. That is not love, he has to be possessed by the devil.

Kizzy will recover from this ordeal both physically and mentally and I will be there for her every step of the way. The whole family is knitted together and as always we take care of our own.

I hope that the justice system of Trinidad & Tobago do their part and don't let this man get away with this act that he has committed. I really hope justice will be served.

Thanks to the Anti-Kidnapping squad for their timely rescue of Kizzy. Because of this Kizzy is still alive with us today.

Edwin I know you cant be here with us at this time, but I know your heart and thought are at home. We all miss you. Good bless. Linda

In this country people have

In this country people have to probably die first before the police wakes up from their slumber. Come on Mr Commissioner, read the riot act again to your officers. You all just cannot treat us like that. Have a heart please.

ATW-Barbados Tell us about

ATW-Barbados

Tell us about the ex-police commissioner who was 95 years old and was found dead under his bed with his feet and hands bound. His home was ransacked...why kill him. Cruelty in Barbados! Crime is everywhere.

Arimaboy according to ATW is

Arimaboy according to ATW is only T&T have political problems and crime it eh have that in Barbados but doh worry with he, we tired tell him to mind he own business and is either he cyar read or he just like to meddle so we does just ignore him now.

obeahwoman , it is people

obeahwoman , it is people like you who are against Caribbean Unity and will do whatever it takes to stop unity among Bajans and Trinbagonians - but you will NOT succeed !!!
I am hurt because of Kizzy's anguish , I am feeling her pain ; and obeahwoman ; you knows that I have triniborn relatives and some are buried there . The tardy response by the police , leaves much to be desired in this matter - and also your diatribe , obeahwoman .

Why worry, Philbert going to

Why worry, Philbert going to transfer all dem officers who was on duty and that will be punishment enough.

I am happy this woman was

I am happy this woman was safely recovered and the kidnappers arrested. My question is this: why publicize the victim? The media posts her picture and her name but is reluctant to id the suspects. She was rescued from their illegal possession, they are criminals and thus have lost any rights to have their id protected. I find this unique to Trinidad. The media rushes to the victim's hospital bedside and insists on being able to see and photograph the victim, claiming freedom of the press gives them access to any public building. This is unheard of in the rest of the world. In most developed countries care is take to avoid id'ing the victims of a crime and instead much exposure is given to the suspects. Show these criminals, print their names and photographs let everyone see them for who they are. Perhaps (as occasionally happens in other countries)others may recognize the suspects as having done harm to them and file additional complains to the police. Don S. NY

Don S. You are absolutely

Don S. You are absolutely correct. This looks like invasion of privacy. This person was victimised and therefore should be protected form the media hounds who instead should have been there when her family went to the stations to report the crime.
Also, why are there no cameras in the station lobbies to record what the public and the desk workers are doing? That way we can clearly see what is taking place in our police stations. After all, they do operate at taxpayers expense. Hmmmmm. Talk about transparency.....

The people in Caroni did not

The people in Caroni did not want the likes of people from Morvant or Laventille living in that area, could the behaviour of the police have something to do with that. Is this how Caroni (including the police) intend to retaliate to the outsiders?

rayklum I am so SORRY for

rayklum
I am so SORRY for this woman why is'nt the Police Department doing more to assist in these kind of problems.
Hope she recovers fully

"HEADS SHOULD ROLL" Famous

"HEADS SHOULD ROLL" Famous saying By the CLOWN PANDAY, meaning to do nothing. GET IT!!

Look closely at this

Look closely at this picture......this is a not a regular criminal act of violence.....this is mutilation....like a serial offender or killer.....there may be other victims.....with any luck this is just the first....she's lucky to be alive....and in all honesty....our police force isn't equipped to deal this kind of thing at all....it's a sore spot that's being taken advantage of by criminals that want to send violent messages and now this.......I've not read all the comments so I don't know if anyone else has picked up on this...but in any case...that's what I have to say.

WE LOVE IT SO

WE LOVE IT SO -

We see the following,

1) We are told by a top contractor Emile ELIAS that he could build the Airport at a third the costs. He get contract, they now have to go to arbitration to query over billing. We find out he was a PNM financier.
2) Minister Rowley, who was the attack dog against UNC, now admits that present corruption many times worst than PIARCO.
3) Murders UNC - 100, PNM - 500.
4) Integrity Commission recommends charges against Panday and Rowley for breaches of act.
5) Rowley takes Integrity Commission to court and wins.
6) Integrity Commission found to have no integrity.
7) Integrity Commission non functional.
8) PNM queries the usefulness if the Integrity Commission.

UNC less crime
UNC less corruption
UNC ran the country better with much less resources.
UNC ran the country stably with a small majority in Parliament

But all we hear is that PANDAY tainted. Everybody else is untainted, is a good thing.
