Health Centre yesterday morning.
Brazen gunmen barged in on the Success/Laventille Health Centre yesterday morning, opening fire on a 23-year-old man in full view of petrified parents and children. It is believed two young men were “called out” to the centre around 9.40 am to “execute” Lennox “Boogie” Bellerand. Police believe the killing stemmed from an ongoing gang war between gangs from Trou Macaque and Beetham Gardens. Bellerand’s killing has pushed the murder toll to 450. The suspects are believed to be members of the Beetham gang who “crossed enemy territory” to kill Bellerand. Bellerand had gone with his mother, Carol Martin, to visit the dentist at the centre on Espinet Street, Laventille. The young man, father of a three-year-old girl, lived at Upper Wharton Street, in the same area.
An eyewitness claims that shortly before Bellerand was murdered, a man sitting in the building talking on a cellphone was heard to say, “The man in here sitting down...Come now.” Bellerand, the eyewitness said, was sitting in the general waiting area in the same location with 25 children when a gunman sneaked up on his victim, shooting him once in the back. The gun fell, the other assailant retrieved it and shot Bellerand in the head at close range. The two made good their escape on foot. The young man’s father, also named Lennox, denied claims that his son was a gang member. He said his son recently confided in him that attempts were being made on his life. “Two months ago they fire a shot and shoot by he once in the bottom,” the senior Bellerand said.
“In Laventille, if you don’t join the gang they would kill you. You have to join the gang for you to survive and still if you join the gang they would still kill you because you would see something.” He could offer no reason for anyone wanting to kill his son. “I tell him to continue living his life honest and don’t go in no gang war...I tell him to stand firm,” he said. Three years ago, another son, Wendell fell by the bullet in gang violence. “That son was a little harden and he did not want to listen. He was in certain things with them and he end up dropping out and they end up killing him,” Bellerand said. Up to late yesterday afternoon, officers from the Besson Street CID, under acting ASP Sahadeo Singh, were conducting searches for the assailants.
Residents angry
Bellerand’s murder which occurred opposite a day-care centre—Mammy’s Day Care—has angered Espinet Street residents who described the attack as “unbelievable.” “I was in the centre with my children. My five-year-old started to bawl and run all over the place when the shots fired. “She cannot stop shaking. This is really nonsense,” an irate mother said. She said killings were the norm in the area, but the murder at the health centre was the limit. “Suppose these children had pick up a stray bullet?” she added. “My son was sitting next to him (Bellerand) just before the gunman come. Something just tell me to move my son from there.” Another resident called for video surveillance cameras to be immediately installed around the centre. He said: “Criminals take over the town. They not afraid to kill people anywhere. We need cameras everywhere because the police just not holding anybody and people afraid to come out and say what they see.”
This reminds me of the wild
This reminds me of the wild west, only we are about 150 years later. The adolescent of our development is much obvious, as is the disorganisation and inactivity of police dunceys who simply bide time to collect month-end salaries and their pensions. Some even collect pensions and a salary as we know.

I am sick and tired of those who blame the police for everything, hear the father, saying his son was not in a gang! Please!
Yes the police are often incompetent and impotent, but what responsibility lies with the citizenry? What about personal responsibility? What about the responsibility of parents to actively play a part in the proper nurturing of their children?
Stop maligning the police and the government at every turn and look to the root cause of all these murders.
PM Manning is NOT responsible for the lack of morality in your home, nor is he responsible for whatever ethics and morals you possess. That is a personal matter, people need to learn to respect each other and to respect the law.
These cretins who go about killing, robbing and raping have absolutely no conscience, that comes from poor family life at home.

Sorry man, but in case you didn't know, God has nothing to do with this phenomenon. And as for 'little black boys', in case you didn't notice these are 'hard stones' young men they are not boys. Lets not have our heads in a fog.

And as for 'ethnic cleansing'which is not applicable here. Isn't the attack in the Clinic is more like 'black on black crime?' For this act to qualify as 'ethnic cleansing' the one who is inflicting it would be of a different race, religion, ethnic group etc. No specific group could have an 'ethnic cleansing' among themselves.
Now for some solutions for Laventille. We already know that most of the decedents of Laventille are offsprings of 'badjohns' & hoodlums, so we shouldn't expect anything less from this area.
The women of Laventille needs to use their birth control, do a tubal ligation, or the Gov't should impose a one child policy.
Laventille is one big out-of-control Ghetto with no respect for law or persons. As a matter-of-fact they give Ghetto a bad name. That place is unfit to be called a Ghetto. It should be called a toxic soup more like a Noxious.

Anytime the issue of firearms being given to off duty police and prisons officers is brought to the fro, the majority of the public object. A friend of mine who is a police officer was on site when this happened but was unable to do anything.It is high time the RIGHT PERSONS be allowed to carry weapons so that they can confront the WRONG PERSONS

It appears many of the young
It appears many of the young men in Trinidad attend the John Wayne School. Shooting is second nature to the youths that they run to see a dead body now, where as in the pass they ran away. In the UK ASBOs (Anti social behaviour orders) are issued on youths and they see it as receiving trophies. If you don't have one you are not part of the in crowd. In Trinidad they count dead bodies as their trophies. The new state of the mind. God help us.
As a parent, it gives me great concern for the future of our children to the next ten generation, if the world is still here.
