A 13-year-old school­boy was stabbed to death late yes­ter­day dur­ing a dis­pute with three oth­er school­boys in San Juan.

A 15-year-old boy, held in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent, re­mained un­der po­lice guard at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex last night. He was re­port­ed­ly beat­en by irate pedes­tri­ans who saw what had hap­pened. Two oth­er sus­pects were lat­er de­tained and tak­en to the Barataria Po­lice Sta­tion for ques­tion­ing. The vic­tim has been iden­ti­fied as Maliq Hillaire, of Lo­cas Hill, Sixth Av­enue, San Juan. Hillaire was a Form One stu­dent of the Barataria Sec­ondary School. Po­lice said the in­ci­dent oc­curred at the cor­ners of Third Av­enue and First Street.

The in­jured sus­pect, a stu­dent of the Mal­ick Se­nior Com­pre­hen­sive School, sus­tained in­juries af­ter he was beat­en by sev­er­al peo­ple who held him short­ly af­ter the stab­bing. Po­lice said they had to rush to the scene and res­cue the sus­pect from the hands of irate vil­lagers. Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, Hillaire was walk­ing along the road­way when he was ap­proached by three stu­dents who re­port­ed­ly tried to rob him. A strug­gle en­sued and one of the sus­pects whipped out a knife and stabbed Hilliare in the neck.

The vic­tim ran along the road­way, through a near­by car park, and col­lapsed on a stair­case a short dis­tance from his home. He was tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex where he died while un­der­go­ing emer­gency surgery. A team of of­fi­cers led by Supt David Abra­ham, In­sp Ed­wards and Sgts Ramjit and Sa­hadeo vis­it­ed the scene. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
