A 21-year-old Maloney man, who was accused of robbing a soldier, was beaten by a group of men dressed in camouflage uniforms and wearing ski masks. Darren Babb, of Building 14, Apartment 2-4 West, was liming at Building 15, Apartment 14 at Maloney around 11 pm on Sunday when eight men wearing camouflage outfits and black ski masks dragged Babb into a green jeep. A black jersey was then placed over Babb's head, he told investigators. After driving around with Babb for a while the men took him out of the vehicle and beat him, threatening to kill him, Babb said.
One of them then ordered Babb to "run and not look back" as the jeep drove off. When Babb took off the jersey he told police he recognised he was in a bushy area on the Arima Old Road. With the assistance of a passer-by Babb made his way to the Arima Police Station and lodged a report. Investigations are continuing. When contacted Public Relations Officer of the T&T Defence Force, Captain Al Alexander, said he was unaware of the incident but assured he "will look into it."
