Laventille resident Sherwyn Walker was yesterday advised to stop fathering more children after he claimed providing for them drove him to steal 72 bottles of Johnnie Walker whisky and four digital cameras.
San Fernando Magistrate Taramattie Ramdass gave the advice to the 43-year-old man after she sentenced him to a total of eight years imprisonment for stealing the whisky and cameras from PriceSmart Ltd, La Romain. Ramdass, in passing sentence, said: "Mr Walker control yourself when you get out and don't make anymore children."
Walker was charged with stealing 72 bottles of scotch whisky, valued $17,567.28 and four Polaroid digital cameras, valued $1,999.96, from PriceSmart Ltd, La Romaine, on June 6. The Laventille man also was charged with resisting Estate Constable Shawlan Ramrattan in the execution of his duty.
Police prosecutor, acting Sgt Rudy Ali, said on June 6, security officers became suspicious of Walker while he was walking out of the newly-opened branch of PriceSmart Ltd. The security officers found six bottles of the whisky hidden around his waist. He was arrested.
An inventory was carried out and the scotch was discovered missing.
The PriceSmart security officers also found one case of scotch containing 12 bottles in Walker's car. He confessed that another vehicle was also used in the scheme and that vehicle left with most of the loot.
