Escapee shot in st madeleine bar

Escaped prisoner Ricardo Mahadeo 21, who was on the run over the last 17 days, was shot dead yesterday.

Mahadeo, of Cipero Railway Line, Ste Madeleine, was assigned to the bakery section of the Golden Grove Prison in Arouca and went missing when a head count was taken at the correctional facility around 5am on July 12. Police officers reportedly received a call that Mahadeo, who had been serving a six-week sentence for breaking and larceny, was liming at a bar in Ste Madeleine.

The officers responded and Mahadeo was reportedly shot after he allegedly lunged at one of the officers with a cutlass in his hand. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, a Point Fortin man remains warded at the San Fernando General Hospital after he was shot by a lone gunman early yesterday. According to reports, Anthony Samuel, of Third Street, Techier Village was walking a short distance away from his home when he was approached by a masked man.

The man shot Samuel once in the chest before escaping on foot. The wounded man was rushed to the Point Fortin Area Hospital. Investigations are continuing.
