Gas­par­il­lo ma­son Ter­ry Leon Singh was giv­en one week to pay $9,000 in fines yes­ter­day af­ter plead­ing guilty to co­caine traf­fick­ing and mar­i­jua­na pos­ses­sion. Singh, 22, of Par­force Road, ap­peared be­fore San Fer­nan­do Sixth Court Mag­is­trate Nizam Khan.

Khan, in pass­ing sen­tence on Singh said: "Co­caine is a dan­ger­ous drug, even one rock can be dead­ly." He was ar­rest­ed on Par­force Road, Gas­par­il­lo, on De­cem­ber 9, 2010. He was charged with hav­ing 50 pack­ets of co­caine, to­talling 13.5 grammes, in his pos­ses­sion for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing.

He al­so was charged with hav­ing one pack­et of mar­i­jua­na, to­talling 5.6 grammes, in his pos­ses­sion.

Po­lice pros­e­cu­tor Ram­dath Phillip rec­om­mend­ed sum­ma­ry tri­al for both charges and Singh plead­ed guilty. Singh's de­fence at­tor­ney Sharmil­la Ram­paul asked for a non-cus­to­di­al sen­tence. She said the drugs Singh had in his pos­ses­sion were rel­a­tive­ly a small quan­ti­ty. (RR)
