Ahmed Edoo, son of for­mer Om­buds­man and re­tired judge George Edoo, has been shot dead. Edoo, 55, of Ken­neth Dri­ve, Gopaul Lands, Mara­bel­la died just be­fore mid­night on Thurs­day. Po­lice said he was shot at point blank range in the back of the head. Edoo's wal­let was miss­ing and his car was un­locked at the time.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said they re­ceived a call around 11.45 pm that a man was seen slumped dead be­hind the wheel of his pick up. The ve­hi­cle was parked at Tarou­ba Road. Po­lice said Edoo's car was drenched in blood and there was a gap­ing hole at the back of his head.

Rel­a­tives said that Edoo at­tend­ed Mosque and while head­ing home he was gunned down. Al­though rob­bery has not been ruled out, in­ves­ti­ga­tors said that Edoo's killing may well have been a hit. Po­lice said over the past few weeks, Edoo had been at the cen­tre of a feud in­volv­ing own­er­ship of a Mosque at Mara­bel­la.

Sources said there was an at­tempt by a group of Mus­lims from Port-of-Spain to take con­trol of the Mosque. This led se­nior of­fi­cials from As­ja to is­sue a state­ment that the mosque be­longed to As­ja. The of­fi­cial in­di­cat­ed that As­ja Imams would lead wor­ship at the Mosque. Rel­a­tives de­scribed Edoo as a very re­li­gious man. Neigh­bours said that Edoo was a pleas­ant but pri­vate per­son. His wife Shereen Mo­hammed, who was sep­a­rat­ed from him, could not be reached for com­ment.

An au­top­sy was con­duced on Edoo's body yes­ter­day at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre which re­vealed that he died from shock and haem­or­rhage con­sis­tent with a gun­shot wound to the head. Edoo's fu­ner­al took place yes­ter­day.
