National Security Minister Brigadier John Sandy is calling on the community of Beetham Gardens and Environs to influence the fathers of the area to become active in their children's lives. Sandy addressed the crowd at the Beetham Estate Gardens, Laventille and Environs fifth Annual Children, Elderly and Needy Christmas Concert, yesterday. Though he expressed joy about the concert, which was a collaborative effort, he said his only concern was the absence of fathers. "I lament the fact that on occasions such as these, we see too few of our fathers and I call on the elders to influence your sons.
I call on the children to influence your fathers and I call on our ladies to influence your men," he said. He said fathers would influence young men and women to become better citizens of T&T.
"And they will not gravitate to gang warfare. "Without the guidance, we ourselves will be troubled later on. "I call upon you to get our fathers out so that they can support our children," he said. He urged attendees to praise children for the little things they do instead of denouncing them.
