A soldier has appeared in court charged with five offences, including aiding and abetting the escape of a prisoner. Private Ryan Gaspard stood before deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court where five charges were read to him.
He was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing Cpl Junior Marcelle in the execution of his duty, assaulting Cpl Marcelle, unlawful damage of Cpl Marcelle's property, namely a pair of denim jeans, and aiding and abetting the escape of a prisoner in lawful custody.
The offences are alleged to have taken place on Sunday at Marabella.
Gaspard was placed on $20,000 bail by a Justice of the Peace after his arrest. The magistrate did not interfere with the bail bond. Gaspard was remanded to court on February 21, 2011.
