Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Shamfa Cudjoe is promising to offer T&T’s Special Olympians more support for their future activities.
She made the promise as she welcomed the Special Olympians of T&T team back from the Special Olympics Games in Saudi Arabia at the Piarco International Airport last night.
It was jubilation at the VIP Lounge as family members hugged their loved ones or children who bagged 57 medals at the games.
Cudjoe promised to make more resources available to them, noting she was looking at offering special athletes incentives from the ministry’s Incentives and Rewards Framework for international events. She also made a special appeal to parents with special children to expose them children sporting activities and not be ashamed and hide them up.
Boasting that the medal haul was the most T&T had ever won and was also the most in the Caribbean, Cudjoe congratulated the athletes, coaches and their parents for the effort they put in and for making T&T proud.
National Director for Special Olympics T&T Ferndinand Bibby also made an appeal for sports teachers to be placed in the special schools, noting most of the time it was volunteers who assist in the training. Bibby emphasised that success does not come easy and it takes time and effort to work with special athletes. He also appealed to all stakeholders to take up something and run with it.
