The Communications Workers Union (CWU) is holding a candlelight vigil outside the Telecommunications Services of T&T’s head office on Edward Street, Port-of-Spain, this evening to counteract what it says is the "dark cloud" now hanging over the company.

In a text earlier today, the CWU invited members to attend a protest action from 4 pm to 6 pm and then a candlelight vigil just after from 6 pm to 7 pm.

"As you are aware, a dark cloud of uncertainty hovers around TSTT and the job security of all workers," CWU secretary general Clyde Elder said in the text.

Elder said he would also indicate then the union’s next plan of action.

This protest action and candlelight vigil come just days after Guardian Media reported on Monday that job cuts were coming at TSTT as the company is rebranding itself as the TSTT Group of Companies.

Although TSTT denied talking to its senior managers about that decision, at least two senior employees who attended a company meeting last Friday at the Hyatt Regency in Port-of-Spain contradicted the company's statement. The two senior managers confirmed to Guardian Media that they were told the company would be split into various business divisions.

On Monday, the T&T Guardian reported that over a thousand workers could be facing the axe when the company rebrands itself by November 1, 2018.
