The Office of the Prime Minister has announced via its Facebook page that Local government elections will be held on Monday, December 2, 2019.
And already UNC and Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is urging her rival to "bring it on" saying that she is ready for the general elections.
Here is the exact announcement below of the election taken from OPM's page:
Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago is pleased to announce that the Local Government Elections shall be held on Monday 02 December 2019 and that the Writs of Elections shall be issued in due course.
But during her Budget response in the Parliament this afternoon, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar warned the Government, that her party the UNC will "meet and beat" the PNM at the local government elections polls.
She said while the UNC is ready for the elections, she urged Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to call the general elections.
"I call upon the Prime Minister to call the general election and not brakes by calling this local government election."
The opposition leader added, "I want you to know the UNC will meet you and beat you at the polls on December 2nd, you don't need a five-dollar light bulb to show you that."
She urged the Prime Minister, "Bring it on, the UNC is ready to transform and resurrect Trinidad and Tobago."
