Customers of The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) in parts of Central and South Trinidad, served by the Point Lisas Desalination Plant may experience a disruption in their regular pipe-borne water supply, on Friday 16th October 2020, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight.
In a press release issued today, the Authority stated that this has become necessary for the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) to carry out emergency works on the electricity supply to the Desalcott owned and operated facility.
Throughout the works, there will be a reduction in the water supply. Among the areas affected include Point Lisas, California, Couva, City of San Fernando, Duncan Village, Green Acres, Lady Hailes, Embabadere, Union Hall, Pleasantville, Palmiste, Phillipine, Esperance, La Romain, South Oropouche, Otaheite, Rousillac, Aripero, Parts of La Brea, Avocat, Fyzabad, Siparia, San Francique, Woodland, Parts of Penal, Debe, Victoria Village, Corinth, Marabella, Gasparillo and Plaisance Park.
WASA has asked that customers manage their water use efficiently, as it may take up to 36 hours for the supply to normalize to some affected areas, after the Plant returns to full operation. A Limited truck-borne water service will be available with priority given to special homes, health care and government institutions. The Authority apologized for any inconvenience caused as a result of this situation at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant.
