The Down­town Own­ers and Mer­chants As­so­ci­a­tion (DO­MA) is call­ing on the own­ers of an aban­doned build­ing on #82-84 Queen Janelle Com­mi­siong Street in Port of Spain to act as the lo­ca­tion is be­ing loot­ed and rapid­ly be­com­ing a site for ques­tion­able ac­tiv­i­ty.

DO­MA is­sued a state­ment on the mat­ter to­day, say­ing:

“We are un­able to de­ter­mine which gov­ern­ment agency is the own­er of the premis­es … We have been ad­vised that the prop­er­ty does not be­long to Min­istry of Fi­nance, nor the Port of Spain Cor­po­ra­tion.”

The build­ing, which is at the cor­ner of Queen and Ed­ward Streets, used to house some de­part­ments of the Board of In­land Rev­enue.

“It is cur­rent­ly be­ing stripped and loot­ed of win­dow frames, doors, gates, bath­room fix­tures, light fit­tings and ceil­ings,” DO­MA re­ports.  “The build­ing is al­so cur­rent­ly oc­cu­pied by un­known home­less per­sons and there are re­ports of school chil­dren go­ing in and out of the aban­doned struc­ture.”

DO­MA is hop­ing the cor­rect own­ers can be alert­ed as to what is tak­ing place at their prop­er­ty, “so that counter mea­sures can be tak­en.”

“We trust that ac­tion will be tak­en im­me­di­ate­ly to pro­tect the build­ing and there­fore all the in­ter­ests of this area of the city,” DO­MA said.
