New ‘girls dem darlin’

Akil Borneo performs his hit 5Star Bumper at Defence Force fete on Saturday at the Queen’s Park Oval.

One experience with his performance and you would agree Akil Borneo epitomises exuberance and true entertainment. Borneo, who goes by the stage name 5Star Akil after his debut soca hit, 5Star Bumper, can probably now be referred to as the new “girls dem darlin”, after his performance at Saturday night’s Defence Force fete at the Queen’s Park Oval. Decked in the united colours of Beneton, Borneo was the first artiste to perform. He was backed by Kes the Band.

Though he admitted to being nervous before going on stage, the radio personality said once he got on stage his nervousness disappeared and he felt like the stage was his home. Describing the response from the crowd as positive. Borneo said: “It’s a wining tune and there were a lot of 5Star hands in the air.” He is due to perform at Licensing Fete this weekend and Temperature 3 on February 6 at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain.
