A Freeport man was shot dead on Tuesday night a short distance away from the Freeport Police Station.
The man, who has been identified as Ricky Chankerdial, of Uquire Road, Freeport, was standing outside D Mix Bar along Arena Road when he was shot by the occupants of a car which was driving past him. He died at the scene.
Police said Chankerdial, also known as "Baghas," was a former prisoner and known to them. He was said to be in his early 30s.
On August 23, 2017, the mother of Chankerdial's five-year-old son was found murdered and her body burnt along with two other men at a house in Carlsen Field.
At the time of the murders, Chankerdial was serving a prison term for car theft. The child has since been living with his mother's relatives.
This latest incident brings the murder toll to 490. Investigations are continuing.
