“Curtis Clement, in spite of his downfalls, waywardness and hardeness, was a loving child.”
This was the opinion of a female relative yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre (FSC), St James, minutes after the family identified his body.
Clement’s semi-nude body was found in a vegetable patch along a lonely track leading off the main road in Maitugal, San Juan, during the early hours of Monday.
Residents reported hearing gunshots around 1.45 am, and investigators later found Clement, clad only in his underwear, with his hands bound and gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
Curtis, of Upper Bushe Street, Maitugal, San Juan, was described by residents as one who was known for getting into fiery confrontations with villagers.
But despite this, his relatives described him as very helpful.
“Sometimes he could be disrespectful but he was a very helpful person. Anybody who ask him to do anything, he was always willing and ready to do it in spite of.”
Another relative nodded in agreement as she chimed in, “You coulda call on him anytime.”
Clement had been working with a contractor from the area doing construction.
A close female relative, who wept openly, said, “He was such a sweet child, He was a good person who had made some bad choices.”—Anna-Lisa Paul
