President of the Fire Service Association, Keone Guy, says a number of fire stations are currently unable to respond to emergencies due to a lack of equipment.
In a statement, Guy said six out of 11 fire stations in the Northern Division lack critical fire-fighting capable appliances.
He further revealed that on a national scale, a total of nine out of 23 fire stations have been left handicapped.
According to him, the situation is exacerbated by a severe shortage of essential equipment, including breathing apparatus sets and rescue tools.
Guy lamented the Ministry of National Security's silence on the matter.
Guardian Media’s attempts to obtain a comment on the issue from Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, were unsuccessful.
