Fulham's English born striker, Bobby Zamora and Bolton Wanderers defender, Jlloyd Samuel, will not be part of the Soca Warriors squad to take on El Salvador in their World Cup Qualifier at the Hasely Crawford Stadium tomorrow at 7.30 pm. Manager of the Warriors, David Muhammed, speaking at a press conference at the Crown Plaza International Hotel yesterday, said Zamora sustained an injury on Saturday while Samuel missed the deadline to arrive in London and pick up his T&T passport.
He said Samuel was out of the country on pre-season training and did not make it back in time. "Everything was put in place but he missed a deadline to collect his Trinidad and Tobago passport on Friday. We could still have flown him in because he wanted to be part of the squad. However the problem with Jlloyd is there is a mandatory 72-hour period for the registration of a player with a passport number and we could not register him if he did not have the passport," said Muhammed. Jason Scotland, Silvio Spann, Marvin Andrews, Chris Birchall, Cornell Glen, Clayton Ince, Dennis Lawrence and Dwight Yorke have joined Sunderland duo Carlos Edwards and Kenwyne Jones as the overseas based players.
W Connection player Hughton Hector was the lone new face in the squad which enjoyed its first full practice session last evening at the match venue. The team is expected to have its final session–a closed door practice, today at the same venue. The El Salvador team which arrived on Sunday, had two sessions at the Marvin Lee and Hasely Crawford Stadia yesterday. T&T, currently at the bottom of the standings with two points, will be seeking full points to draw level with their opponents, who presently have five points.
