Former Soca Warriors defender, Brent Sancho has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of former Pro League club, North East Stars. Joining Sancho on the new look Stars Board of Directors is his former clubmate Kevin Jeffrey, who will hold the position of Director of Football. These announcements were made by club owner and founder Darryl Mahabir, who stated that the new appointments are evidence of the club's ambitions to return to the top of local football. "Having these two guys show the club is going in the right direction. We are an ambitious club and we have plans to further establish ourselves through the right channels with better development and professionalism. We think that having Kevin and particularly Brent involved will be an asset to the club," Mahabir said.

Mahabir further stated, "Brent's ability to work and get things done and Kevin's (with whom I have a very good relationship with) knowledge and commitment to the sport will both impact this community in a positive way". Sancho, back in T&T after campaigning with Rochester Rhinos in the American A-League, said he was excited about his new position with the local club. "I am delighted to be part of this club. I'm definitely looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead and will be aspiring to helping the club attain a fair amount of success," said the ex-Gillingham defender. Sancho, a former English and Scottish-based player, added that he has held the club in high regards following his stint in 2008 with North East Stars which helped the club climb from bottom of the table to finish third in the Pro League before it was forced to miss the 2009 season due to financial reasons.

"In the short time I played at the club I was really impressed with the direction the club was heading and I want to play a more instrumental role in this positive movement." Jeffrey, who also plied his trade with Richmond Kickers in the A-League, is no stranger to the club having spent five years at the Sangre Grande-based outfit where he was instrumental in helping the club win the T&TFF FA Trophy (2003) and Pro League, a year later, as a player. "I am excited about the appointment and I look forward eagerly to help push this club in the right direction" Jeffrey said. Despite not fielding a team this year due to problems at the club's playing facility at the Sangre Grande Regional Ground (popularly known as the Ojoe Road Recreation Ground) the club management says they are hoping for the best.

"From the club's perspective we are seeing exciting times ahead. We are hoping that the Corporation will understand the importance of having the facility that will home professional football for the community, and for kids to aspire playing for. The facility is still in shambles at the moment and we hope that the Corporation will learn from the mistakes in the past," said Sancho. North East Stars once employed notable players such as Jerron Nixon, Kendall Jagdeosingh, Kendall Velox, Brent Sancho, Kevin Jeffrey, Anthony Wolfe, Glenton Wolfe and Charles Pollard to name a few.
