Former Fatima College and Newtown Boys’ RC School student Joshua Chu For has been awarded the 2019 Korean Government Scholarship to pursue an undergraduate degree majoring in Electrical Engineering at Korea University in Seoul, Korea.
A statement from the embassy said Chu For will begin his degree programme in March 2019 with one year additional study on Korean Language in order to familiarise himself with new student life in Korea.
With his keen eyes for engineering, Chu For has been inspired to further study in the field of Electrical Engineering and aspires to become a person that provide solutions to daily problems in our life by designing creative and useful divides.
His dream of studying in Korea has been encouraged by Master Jung Jin-young under whom Chu For has been practicing Teakwondo, the Korean martial arts since 11 years old.
He has represented T&T at several national and international tournaments including 2012 Pan Am Junior Open International Taekwondo Championships in Portland where he won a gold medal.
The Korean Government, through its National Institute for International Education (NIIED)’s Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) programme, offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to further pursue their undergraduate and graduate degrees at Korean tertiary educational institutions.
Since 2013, several brilliant and motivated students from Trinidad and Tobago have been awarded Korean Government scholarship and are pursuing studies in various fields such as international relations, bio engineering, and computer science.
The Embassy said it is pleased to note that the GKS Programme offers a great opportunity for the exchange of young scholars between the T&T and the Republic of Korea, which will certainly contribute to future cooperation and fruitful exchanges between our two countries in the years to come.
