Former top CoP’s nephew gets bail for murder charge

Mar­cus Ja­cob, the nephew of for­mer act­ing Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Mc­Don­ald Ja­cob, was grant­ed $800,000 bail on eight charges, in­clud­ing the mur­der of for­mer po­lice of­fi­cer Syed Mo­hammed.

On De­cem­ber 20, 2022, Ja­cob ap­peared be­fore a Siparia mag­is­trate for the mur­der of Mo­hammed and he was re­mand­ed in­to cus­tody.

His at­tor­ney Ki­ran Pan­day ap­pealed to the court for this re­lease and up­on hear­ing yes­ter­day, High Court Jus­tice Nali­ni Singh grant­ed bail with sure­ty to cov­er all charges.

His bail is un­der the con­di­tion that he re­ports to the Princes Town Po­lice Sta­tion three days a week, re­side at a spe­cif­ic ad­dress dur­ing the du­ra­tion of the mat­ter, a pro­hi­bi­tion against ap­ply­ing for any trav­el doc­u­ments, and that he not con­tact di­rect­ly or in­di­rect­ly and keep at least 200 feet away from wit­ness­es in the case.

Po­lice held Ja­cob, who goes by the alias Mc­Don­ald and Black­face, fol­low­ing the fa­tal shoot­ing of Mo­hammed out­side his home along Kat­wa­roo Trace, Pe­nal, on De­cem­ber 12, 2022.

Af­ter an in­ves­ti­ga­tion, po­lice charged him with pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion, pos­ses­sion of a firearm, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion to en­dan­ger life, pos­ses­sion of a firearm to dan­ger life, fraud­u­lent use of an iden­ti­fi­ca­tion mark, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion, and pos­ses­sion of a firearm.
