A Gasparillo couple has been arrested and will be charged with cultivating and trafficking marijuana.
Police said between 2 am to 10 am on Saturday, officers led by Senior Supt Winchester, Supt Carty, ASP Jaikaran and ASP Ramdass, W/Asp Theodore-Persad, Sgt Ishmael, and other officers from the Gasparillo Police Station went to Poonah Road, Whiteland, to execute a search warrant for arms and ammunition.
Instead, they allegedly found a 29-year-old man and his 25-year-old wife cultivating marijuana.
A room of the house had been fitted with four LED lights which hung about three feet above several pigtail buckets, each containing marijuana plants.
Weedicides, fertilisers and pesticides, as well as a spray can and a watering can, were also found.
Officers also allegedly seized a quantity of high-grade dried marijuana branches hanging from several clotheslines. This was said to be over 2.7 kilogrammes and carried a street value of $57,200.
A white plastic bag containing a quantity of high-grade marijuana was also found. It weighed 453 grammes and was said to have a street value of $12,955. Police also seized a plastic bag with $70, 155 in cash as well as a white first aid kit containing three rounds of 9 mm ammunition and $10,000 in cash. Officers also allegedly found another clear plastic bag containing 27.5 grammes of cocaine which was worth $14,300.
The couple was taken to the Gasparillo Police Station.
